P5 Newbie here, with only 250km on my blue one. Want to know if anyone else experiences CD's skipping lots.
My old rusty SUV with its 4 year old Alpine CD player never skipped, and I am talking my truck would bruise my kidneys everytime I hit a pothole.
Also if I buy new speakers, is there a pre-out for an amp on the stock stereo?

The P5 stock head unit does not come with RCA outs. More info - My P5 Install (http://www.astolfo.com/p5)
:D
whoa this is majorly shitty, I would have thought by now manufacturers can afford better cd players that can buffer more and read multisession, geesus christ.
With no rCa pre-outs, this means there's no possibility of an amp/sub addition to this?

Okay well it seems everyone has the same issues as I do. I have driven many 2000-01 sedans compact cars through renting them on my travels. None have had CD Players this crappy, and my CD-R's I have burnt are impossible to play unless when sitting at a stoplight.
I think I will complain to Mazda about this one.

I don't have any of these problems on mine, but I think I'm the only one. Just about every board in existence has messages about the CD players being crap. The only trouble I come across is that the burned CD's are thicker and sometimes don't get recognized. Do you guys have the 6 disc? Maybe the single player is less accident prone. Just a thought.

Acutally I am wondering if it is just the canadian model. It seems that anyone who has the USA model doesnt complain about the skipping.
Anyone else?

RJD,
I got to agree with you, I never had any problems with any of my burned disks.
I actually liked the factory unit until I needed the preouts for the amp. Damn I wish I still had the factory in there, all I do when I'm driving is play with the radio which isn't good for the driving aspect.

I've never had too much skipping (with the exception of early in the morning when the interior is cold) with my cd player, and i've never had a problem with burned cd's. (i only have the single disk cd player)

You can run an amp off of the factory head unit. There are convertors (fairly cheap) that will convert your speaker wires to an RCA Pre-out. I did this so I could keep the 6-Disc in-dash CD Player. I have a 4 channel amp. I hooked the front 2 channels to the 4 door speakers. I then hooked the subs up to the rear 2 channels.
As for the CD skipping issue, I have had no problems with CD's, burned or not. (USA) If the CD player is skipping and your car is fairly new, take it back to Mazda and tell them you want them to replace it under warrenty. Obviously something is probably wrong. Good Luck.

Mazda should of offered a 6 cy engine....considering that there wont be many changes in the future models. There should be a light in the glove box and on each visor mirror. They also could of thrown in the leather package also instead of offering it after purchase.

I've had no problems with the factory deck I got in my P5, had it for about 2 months now. I ran my amp with a high input instead of RCAs all ya gotta do is hook up your high inputs to your rear speakers... only thing is if ya shut off your rear speakers the subs dont play either.

Mine skipped like mad too. And it couldn't read some of my burned CD-Rs. i got rid of it the second day I had the car for a Sony CDX-CA850. Yeah, people say sony head units suck, but you gotta sacrifice a bit of performance for aesthetics sometimes :) The stock cd player is so ugly!!!

Mine skips a little from time to time. Can't tell if its just my scratched CDs or if its the player. Quick question to anyone who reads this. I want to install a third set of speakers. Are there rear out on the stock player?? Also, how do I remove the 2 plastic borders without snaping them?? Sounds simple, but I reaaly don't want to f up my new car... :D Thx
Has anyone else had a cd stuck in their stock system? I have the single disc player and the other night I through a cd in there and now it won't give it back or play it, the nerve! Guess I'll just bring it back tot he dealer or something.

In 3 months and 7500 miles my cd player (single) have not skipped once. Maybe its the kind of cd-burners or the cd's you guys use.

The stock CD player does not have a third set of outputs. I've never seen a radio with six speaker outputs, and I don't know what good it would do, anyway.
Those side pieces are just snapped in. They shouldn't break when they come off. Just remember, when you remove the stereo, use 4 Ford/Saab keys, and if you're putting the stock back in, DON'T TAKE THE KEYS OUT. If you re-install the factory unit without the keys in it, the side tabs will stick out too far and scratch the dash. I watched a Mazda mechanic do this to the car next to mine when I was getting an oil change. I probably won't go back.

Yah, I had the same problem within the first hour of my road trip to Vegas... tossed in an old skool hip hop CD (always good for driving :) and blammo - stuck in there. Of course, some of my friends blame the fact that it was an old skool hip hop CD...
Anyways, it was raining out and although I knew there would be a fuse I could pull to try and reset the deck, I decided I didn't want to kneel on da wet ground so I pooped the hood, disconnected the battery terminal and put it back on and everything was fine till now. Still no problems...
I have had my car since early august and the deck skips sometimes but always plays all my burned CD's and everything. And since I am broke.. no upgrade for da stereo yet :)

lying in bed.. thinking about this dilemma tonight- in a brand new car... should the disc player really skip this much and it be considered in good working order?? becuase i would consider it broken if some work and some don't... shouldn't it be covered by warranty or something like that? Any input?

Ok, i have kenwood exelon cd player in my car and it skips bad too. Im thinking the wiring mount is not very stable. There must be lots of vibration sent to the player. I get so mad when i close my glove box and the cd player skips too. Maybe my cd player is messed up, but i think the car has issues in this area.

i'm in canada and i got a 2002.
my cd has not skipped once even with burned cd's in it.
Does anybody know about speakers and the deck specificiations for the p5? What manufacturer is OEM provider for Mazda? (ie. I heard Alpine is OEM for Honda's civics)
I'm also told that US P5 front speakers are 6.5", while here in Canada, the speakers are 5.25", but could be fitted wih 6.5" speakers given a mounting bracket (sigh, even more !@*# money).

The factory speakers front speakers on the American version are 5x7.

I just bought my Pro5 right after thanxgiving. It only has 1577 on the odometer, and the stock cd player started skipping like mad today. I've had some problems w/ skipping when I play burned cds, but not like this with a brand new cd. It was sounding like dj crackhead doing 240 bpm. So I roll up to the dealer, and the cd doesn't skip there (Murphy's Law).
The parts guy there said that cd skipping has been a problem for the Pros especially with burned cds. The waiting list for swapping stock head units was 3 months. :( I'll just wait for a recall. In the mean time I'm going to save some cash to buy a new head unit. Tah-tah.

Panasonic is the OEM manufacturer for the "modular" system in the Pro 5's.
I too have an occasional skipping problem, but only after about an hour of playing.
