he has an auto. U have stick. Unless you suck at driving stick/launching you will smoke him. BTW tell him to take it easy. It's breaking in period :-)

you will KILLL HIM. he weighs MORE. (about 60 lbs) and is only 115 hp.
ive driven my friends 4 door 2.0 and you can win, no doubt.
You can beat any 4 cylinder through you're first 2 gears.

you are going to win in an absolute mis-match!
the 2.0 vw engine is the worst engine vw has ever sold...the golf chassis is overweight and top heavy with a buick inspired suspension...you will absolutely own him in every performance category

I cant believe paying so much for a golf or jetta and it only has an 8 valve 4 cylinder. These cars are way overpriced.

I agree.. we were looking at some lastnight.. I owned a 97 Golf and it just didnt seem so expensive at the time... now, comparing them to whats out now, and what performs better.. its ridiculously high! How about that 20 year edition?? pfft. yeah right!

I've got a 2002.5 P5 and I have a 2003 Jetta Wagon (2.0L auto). The fit/finish, material quality, etc on the Jetta is MUCH better than the P5. It has WAY less road/wind noise. It's just a solid car. The 20thAE GTI and Jetta GLX are both overpriced, I agree.
That said, I drive the P5 everyday and my wife drives the Jetta because the P5 is more fun to drive and I get better mileage.
If all you care about is straight performance, then the 2.0 Golf/Jetta is not for you. But if you really care about performance, the P5 shouldn't be for you either, should it?
