hey, looks pretty good. but that is aftermarket, right? if it was factory, your dome lights would be up where your switch is now, but yeah looks good.

That looks real good. I was think of putting a sunroof in too, but im worried about it leaking. How much did that run you??

Yes it is an aftermarket... it was not an option from the dealer... it was about $1,200 installed, & it is a "SolAire" sunroof. They did a great job, NO LEAKS!!!

umm what i'm worried about now is that it has compromised the body's rigidity. don't get me wrong i want a sunroof too. but ppl have traced the reason to why windshields crack, the suspension. now with the sunroof and this suspension, i don't know what will happen?

Torque twist from a really powerfull RWD car is what causes glass to crack and break. With the MSP this is a non issue because it is a FWD and all of the torque is front to rear instead of side to side.

wicked, I've been waiting for those pics, I think you just convinced me to get a sunroof. I'll be getting it next spring, Dealership said they would send it out to the company they deal with for $1100. Any spicy oranges with a sunroof out there yet?

You know what my problem would be though?? Since it isn't factory, I would be making all kinds of measurements to see if it was 'exactly centered, and all of that.
One of my faults....perfectionist. It can make you crazy!
Not to mention; I would have a tough time trusting anyone cutting that hole!!
But again; it looks great, and the price is about what I would have expected. Seems fair. :D

I must say you're a brave man. It would be very scary for anyone to cut a roof open like that. I always wanted a sunroof for this car and wondered how much it would really affect the structure of the car.
Did they use the same headliner fabric when they cut open the roof onto the shade? It's a perfect match from the pictures.
Whoever did installed this sunroof for you did an excellent job!! If i didn't know about this car, i wouldn't know it was done aftermarket. The dome light shifted to the back to allow the sunroof to be in place looks as if was meant to be there.
I wonder if it's the same dimension as a regular protege? If the install was done well, which it clearly is shown there, i don't think you will ever experience any leaks.
One down side to the sunroof is how they used such thick rubber to surround the primeter of the cut out just to prevent leaks to seal it tightly.

Yea, I think they did use the same fabric. not 100% sure though.

So how is your headroom affected? I'm 6'1" and since I autoX I need to be able to wear a helmet. Any comments? Also, did the sunroof install place offer any kind of warrenty? Thanks

i got an ASC 840 moonroof in my speed. don't have pics but it
looks almost similar to dakidd's inside and out. it is fully
automatic w/ 1-touch open/close/tilt features. different roof
fabric but it is still gray (same fabric found on eclipse's and talons
for example of texture). it came with 3yr/60k warranty that
covers everything (parts, labor, leaks, etc.)
make sure you get it done at a reputable installer, because once
they start there is no turning back. my installer was
recommended to me by my dealer... it is who they formerly used
to install roofs onto other vehicles.
hope this helps you.
oh i paid $897 ($999 list price) because they gave me a dealer
cost becuz one of my salesman's sons worked there.

I don't want to be a smartass, but that actually is a moonroof. The sunroof is the one that opens to the outside of the car. (peep)

actually is a sunroof b/c a moonroof is when u could slide it back without opening the actual roof that way u see outside and with it not being open... and since urs doesnt do that then... is a sunroof

Actually, No in your definitions it is a moonroof, you can see it in his pics... when you have a handle you can slide the cover back.. meaning its a moonroof
Mach 3.5 Turbo

I thought a moonroof was painted to match the car (like some hondas) and a sunroof was tinted glass.
Well, from the start....we should have had a moonroof come WITH the car!!!! damn Mazda.
You can try the rigidity excuse all you want......it's BS. The ES has a sunroof, the p5 does as well, and I'm sorry but an extra 40hp and and suspension components isn't going to change much in that sense. It was a cost reason, and it's that simple. same reason why we don't have Cruise. The SRT4 has a sunroof, the SVT, The Spec V...all the Speeds competition basically.
I don't really miss a sunroof though. Maybe because I've always had them in previous cars and the novelty has worn off.
That being said, that install job looks really really nice. Now, we'll see in 2 years if it leaks....cross the fingers!
