I get this sometimes between 4500-6500 rpm in 1st gear when the RPM is going up really quick but the car isn't going anywhere.
I assume it's due to the clutch slipping and not gripping.
Anyone with this issue or can explain this?! Thanks.

Well, it sounds like a clutch slipping, but its pretty early into the car's life for that to happen.
You been doing some crazy launches arkitek? ;)

No crazy launches! I think I'm pretty smooth (been told) with manual tranny. So I'm thinking maybe the clutch springs aren't strong enough which might explain why Mazda changed them to stronger ones for the 2003.5 MSPs.

Couldn't really be the tires burning out since I would feel it with the steering wheel.

Maybe the clutch plate hasn't been scruffed up good enough for better bite?! It doesn't do it all the time though which is confusing.

Mine has the same problem occasionaly when going into second at low speeds. Two times it did it from 1st in a corner to second and it just "held"..

I have the same case as T3ase,

Slippage from 1st to 2nd at higher RPMs
(only a few times..... I don't drive my car hard)

This is not good then as the clutch is gonna wear out quicker than normal for sure. I'm almost certain now that the clutch springs aren't strong enough for the power which explains the change for the 2003.5 MSPs.

Uping the boost would just make matters worse. Anyone running higher boost should really notice it more often. Anyone here?

Maybe that's what's causing our hesitation?

I`ve had that same problem since the first day I got my MSP(been three months now). At first I thought it was the new clutch just breaking in, but now.......

Do you think that the dealership will honor a spring up-grade for us 2003 MSPs?

They better!!!

Question is, would premature clutch wear be covered within the warranty period? Even though it might end up being a design flaw, they can sing around it and not cover it.
