For those with the PR5 who have added a turbo, I was wondering how it affected your gas mileage? Which turbo did you go with? Any other mods along with the turbo that may affect the mileage? Thanks, Jusden

Turbo with cams and a bunch of other crap here, FP kit. about 230 miles to a tank. that's slightly over 15 mpg.

i know that Captain KRM P5 actually gets higher than typical gas mileage with the turbo now. 93 octane, 27 mpg.

if you're going turbo, i wouldn't think gas mileage should be a priority. i'd say it really just depends on how much you get on the gas, because you run rich when you are boosting - if not, normal mileage.

i am retracting my previous statement, it sounds really stupid. i must have had drugs in me or something. if you arent boosting you should get the same mileage. if you are, "turbos add torque and torque makes fun" (Corky Bell, Maximum Boost)
increase in HP=decrease in MPG.
turbos and HP. what the hell was i thinking.:wtf:
but, it really depends on how well you drive.

Thanks for the responses everyone. By 'boosting' I am assuming we are talking just about running the throttle wide open..pedal floored? Excuse my turbo ignorance, so as long as I'm not on the pedal hard it shouldn't be sucking up the gas right? I do long commutes on occasion, this would be my concern with mileage...when ur racin ur racin.
Is there performance difference with the Spoolin or the Flyin Miata turbos? What kind of HP/torque are we talking respectively?

why baby the car? if you are worried about gas dont buy a fast car. there are different HP gains. go to the websites or pm keith at flying miata or spoolinmp3.

actually if turbo and fuel is runing the way it should be than you actually increase gas mileage, this is of course if things are 100%

if it was a perfect world we wouldnt need turbo, and all that would come out of the exhaust would be water. turbo's do not increase gas mileage. :D the more air you force feed, the more fuel you need to compensate.

Uhm with the cams if you floor it you can literlly see the gas needle drop as you begin to red line. I took to sacramento early this year to an autocross event with some friends, we messed around thed whole way there speeding up and stuff like that, that DAY I only got about 130 miles to a full tank. So I tried to keep my car under 5rpm's.

JESUS LORD! thats like v-8 gas guzzlers
I think it just bad for now as we have to keep the car very rich to aviod knock until a real management system comes out.
