what are you using? i was going to get a greddy 60mm silverface...but it is kinda pricey....should i just got with 52mm autometers and a-pillar? the thing i like about the greddy is that the numbers themselves light up, so it matches the other gauges. are there any silver faced autometer that do that? ...or any other brand that isnt like 2093203920 dollars?
thx
and post pics of ur gauges pls, even tho ive probably seen em already ;)

I would go w/ the greddy b/c I hear the autometers aren't accurate at all... (even though I did buy them before, I won't buy them again.. go w/ quality if you can afford it!)
As for myself, I probably get the Greddy :D

How about these?
Ebay 1 (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2411904091&category=6770)
Ebay 2 (kinda cool looking) (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2412543957&category=33676)
Ebay 3 (Greddy 60mm) (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2412235162&category=33742)
I'll keep looking for you..
as for myself, I haven't figured out if I want to do 3 in the DIN or 2 on the pillar.... what do you think Dex?
Dexter
04-24-2003, 03:22 PM
i have other plans for the DIN, and only enough money for one gauge right now, especially if i buy the Greddy, so im thinkin just single 60mm pillar pod
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2412235162&category=33742
looks good but the title says 60mm and the description says 52mm white...BS

I just bought an autometer 2 1/16 ultra light boost gauge yesterday. It ran me $45, it is a decent price. I got a single A pillar pod from autometer also, for $22. Good luck with your quest, gauges can be expensive.

I forgot to add on there glowing lic. plate frame also! J/K Yea, I really don't plan on doing those in the future. If I ever enter a show I might just have some orange accents in a few places but none of that other stuff. My future mods consist of more suspension and motor work. Thanks for catching that.
I need to take off the turbo timer since it got jacked.

I have the Greddy 60mm, well worth the money. Please don't get an A-Pillar pod, they look like shit (and look like rice) and block your view. Get the Greddy 60mm mounting kit and be creative. Here is the link to my pics:
http://www.photos.yahoo.com/nmaino6 check them out.
Not sure what other gauges you would want? If anything goes boom on the car, a stupid gauge is not going to save anything.

I have been running Autometer gauges in my racecar for years, and in several of my street cars. I do believe that they are accurate, they have been making gauges for about 70 years or so. If you are worried about accuracy, buy Stack gauges, used in CART and F1 race cars. Greddy are nice, but I think you're paying a lot for a name.

How much have you all spent on your gauges/pods??? I was looking into getting my set as soon as possible(well after I get my car back of course). I need to make sure the size will be right first, but I want to go with the GReddy Warning Series. It's gonna run me over $700 though for the gauges, and the install will be totally custom(hopefully by me to save the money). Like Dexter said, I more want it for the fact that it matches, so if i can get cheaper ones, i'd do that for sure.
Dexter

yeah , the greddy warning series are the coolest, but it doesnt seem worth it to pay that much just for matching colors. maybe if i was an interior decerator or something...but ..yeah....
i just want boost gauge really...i have nothing else to be concerned about at this moment, im not going to be doing any tuning, but i want it to look good....

seems like the space under the stereo head unit would be a good place to mount the guages. Would be discrete and the door could be closed so as to hide them.
I'm just not sure what brand of guages to buy. Would like Boost, air temp and oil temp.

Blitz 60mm BLM series only way to go! imo

That's the DIN
Most important gauges (to me) are (in my order of preference):
1) tie: Oil pressure / oil temperature: With the turbo, you NEED to know when the oil is warm and "flowy" enough to get into the boost. Water temp won't tell you that, as the water warms faster than the oil.
2) Boost: Because it's cool, the needle moves a lot, and it helps to know to stay OUT of the boost until she's warmed up (see "1" above...)
3) Volts: Because it's good to know. Ordinarily this would be the first to tell you a "fan" belt is shot, but (especially with a powerful stereo) it's a good piece of info to have.
Now I have to re-read the posts above to find the ones that best match the interior colors - designer or not, I'm buying them once, probably taking a bunch of time (and/or money) to install them, looking at them often, and I want to be reminded of what they're telling me rather than "well, they're OK, I got 'em cheap"!

I agree ping...
The most imp for me are in this order:
EGT (for lean/rich conditions)
Oil Pressure
Boost

Look, it does not matter if you buy a EOT gauge. It is very simple; don't get on the turbo until the five or so minutes have passed by after starting the car. There is no other reason to buy any other gauge then the boost gauge (there really is no reason to buy that one either). I think that the only reason to buy other gauges for this car is for the "poser" effect that is all so important these days. I bought my boost gauge because I wanted to see when I built boost, and how much. Boost is something that I have controle over, oil temp and pressure are not, so what does it matter?
The only way that any of the other gauges are going to be helpful is if you go to a Standalone ECU system and do some very serious tuning with the car. Then you have to ask yourself, "how much money do you want to throw into a twenty thousand dollar car?"
No flame intented boys.

LMAO volts!
Dude Boost, A/F, EGT, oil press. Are you saying that you would rather know the volts of thge car than the A/f ratois? Most turbo timers have a volt meter built into them anyway.

Get the Greddy! The only Autometer gauge I would run would be a boost gauge. The greddy is a litlle more accurate cause it electric. I paid $180 for mine. The silver face match perfect. light up the same as our gauges to. The greddy have peak hold, memory, warning light and a switched ground. That way if you hit the warning you can make it turn off a boost contoller, turn on your windshield wipers or whatever. (sorry about the big pics lazy didnt want to shrink them)

damn, all this talk and arguement about guages. This is want i want:
Boost: so i know where i peak at and when boost starts.
EGT (maybe): overkill, but is 2 purpose. lets you know mixture and egt.
oil temp: so i don't f-up my turbo with whack oil
water temp: cuz our turbos are water cooled

nmaino, are you sure about what u talking about?
My choices for now:
1. EGT
2. A/F
3. Boost
4. Oil Pressure
5. Oil temp- why not?, not now.
I choose Greddy, why? Because of the Warning light feature. You can even add a buzzer, and thats what Im going to do. So Im selling my brand new but opened Autometer Boost Gauge.
All I want is safety...having that, will position them on optimal places. Need a view where the warning light can call my attention without moving my eye farther.

But seriously for me I just going to get an Autometer boost gauge.
I'm just want a bit more from my car.
Say there I-AM-Chrissy. I am diggin that big ol ranch pic and the Ghetto mount is just so sweet. JK I'll be lucky just to get the dang gauge in right and I'm not even sure I will hook the power to it for the light. I could some how figure out a way to cause a short even with a how to:eek: Your gauge is in a good spot to be read.
I would like to come by and check out your setup and maybe do a little Q/A with you on the gauge install. I have to order it then I can install my MBC.

The point: Spending money on one gauge is completly different then spending money on gauges that you do not need (if you are not performing HUGE amounts of custom work to the engine).
If you want to waste your "hard earned money" on a bunch of gauges that do not do shit, then go ahead (waste your money).

I have the autometer ultra lite gauges and don't regret buying them one bit. They look fine, work as they should, and were a good price. It's obviously not the highest quality gauge, but they jet the job done. If autometer didn't make working products, I'm sure they wouldn't be a popular business today.

How did everyone look up the lighting for their gauges? To the headlights/foglights/ignition? Anyone have pics of their work hooking the gauge up to the foglights or headlights? That's what I want to do, but I don't want to start just chopping up wires.

hey t3ase, i hooked up the lighting on my greddy gauge to the 12V parking light wire. i dont know if i have any pics of it ...but its the big harness right on the left side, when you take off the lower dash panel under the steering wheel. the wire color is in the car audio/ electronics section, but use a multimeter to verify.
actually i found a picture
http://www.smokinmhz.net/mazdaspeed/greddy/wiremess-s.jpg
thats what the harness looks like.

That's the same harness the Turbo Timer's hooked up to, isn't it?
Dexter
07-26-2003, 04:08 AM
no, the turbo timer is hooked up to the ignition harness. which has 6 (or 8) thick wires coming out of it and more rectangular shaped. this one is a big cube with a whole shitload of different wires for crap
