View Full Version : Injen intake done

Well its finally done and they will be released in two weeks. I talked to the dude about a group buy and he said to go through one of their vendors :wtf: I guess they wont do group buys so we would get a better deal through an authorized dealer. Also I dont have dyno results :wtf: because they know the gain is the same as Stephs because they didnt change the layout too much. I did want to see what my UDP added to my car, but I guess beggars cant be choosers. As for the performance, the car runs butter smooth, great response, definetly feel the gain and the turbo and BOV sound sweet. I guess I have to pass the torch to someone else on setting up a group buy with a vendor. Whos it going to be?

Hey I have had good luck lately at setting up group buys and talking to vendors , so I will give it a shot tomorrow.I will talk to my people and see whats up!I can assume that Injen fixed all the issues they were having? I will call the guys at Injen tomorrow and see what they have to say!

all issues were fixed FORCEFED contact me for Vendor info. I have a few listings that Injen told me to go through
redmption
04-23-2003, 12:52 AM
No point in calling Injen they will just point you to a dealer. I just talked to Steph and she said she was going to set it up anyway, you two can work it together.
There are no more stall problems, no more stumbling that I saw, I didnt get to test it too much though. I give a more thorough test result tomorrow
ForceFed
04-23-2003, 01:12 AM
I'm not going to talk to Injen about a GB,just for some info.I got a Local dealer here in town that has sponsored me in the past and gives me the HELLA HOOK-UP on parts .I will talk to him tomorrow and see if he can get us an excellent price for buying in quantity!
Thanx,Matt:D
Heathen23
04-23-2003, 01:15 AM
Not to butt in but why don't you two (Spicy and ForceFed) just test the waters with each of your prefered sources and see who comes up with the best prices on estimated quantities?
Just a thought. If I'm way off base here - my bad.

redmption
04-23-2003, 01:28 AM
start a list, with a guessed price of $250
ForceFed
04-23-2003, 01:29 AM
I'm game lets do that! It doesn't hurt anyone,It may just get us a better price on the intake, especially if we work together to get the vendors competing against each other for the highly anticipated and greatly wanted business! This might just work to get us all a real sweet deal!:D
Thanx,Matt:cool:

actually, I would rather wait until we have a concrete price. Im sure others will agree

04-23-2003, 01:30 AM
yeah but the more ppl you can tell them are buying the better price you get
SpicyMSP
04-23-2003, 01:32 AM
well the more people who dont know the price.. wont comitt.. so i disagree.
ForceFed
04-23-2003, 01:32 AM
Vendors will be able to tell you how many they need to sell to give a price break so we don't really need concrete numbers IMO.

Here I go again with my butting in....
People want this mod pretty bad. People expect to pay between $200-$300 for sure. You may want to get a feel for the demand before even bothering with your vendors to let them know you mean business. If you come to them with a list of 40 buyers they may just suprise you with a kick ass price. I'm guessing you will easily get half the MSP owners that regularly post on this board to commit to a group buy regardless of price. People just seem to want this CAI in the worst way (wink)
Thanks to all involved in the development on this project. Cheers to the devoted MSP owners (drinks)

Not to be a downer here, but...how are we sure the stalling problem is fixed? Did they test this "new" intake on Spicy's as well? Did they try the "old" intake on redmption's car first to see if it would stall and then work from there? If they did either, did it in fact stall or did it fix Spicy's stalling problem?
Is anyone else following my line of thought here....maybe it works on redmtion's MSP, but others will have problems with it...after all, not everyone is complaining about the hiccuping, some people have stalling issues without the intake that hasn't been fixed, not everyone gets the clunking noise....how do we know that this intake is not going to cause stalling on others cars?
I'm just trying to look out for everyone here.

The VW folks on the Vortex experienced similiar price cuts, depending on how many people there were - not uncommon if there's like 20 or more of us, which it seems like there will be...

I'm with twizted on this one. Too many threads to read through...I'm interested on the Injen if it is close to $200, and as long as I know it won't stall(will it come with a gaurantee??). I have plenty of other mods to spend money on rather than something that may fail. I may have to hold off until, like Braden said, it is tested more.

All of your worries can now dissapear. I have been driving hard, soft, sweet, sour and every other way you can drive a car testing the intake. All stall problems are gone, I was even had a near stall in idle with the UDP and thats gone! The hesitation is 99.9% gone. With the K&N we though it was sweet, it definietly kills the stock box but the intake is a 1000 x's better. With the stock box/K&N I would notice huge hesitations sometimes. It would be like the car would take a deep breath when I hit the pedal and never let go of it. Only once have I noticed the car take a "breath" with the intake but it let it go almost instantly and nailed me into my seat, it was actually kind cool. I love my Injen intake and I know all of you will too.
Another example, I used to take turns, down shift into second before the turn and the hit the gas on the way out and it would lag building up speed, tonight on the way home I took the same turn, hit the gas on the way out and it was like the hand of god slapped my car on the ass. A huge difference...

Almost forgot, the stalling/stumble problem was from the BOV recycle line was dumping too close to the air mass sensor, which caused turbulence, hence the stumble/stall. They moved it way down the pipe so there are no problems now

Ok...I figured I would post this comment here so you guys don't have to sift thru it in the broup buy (since my names already in the pool!)
(/rant on)
People are complaining that this thing is going to cost over 200$...I have to ask wtf?!?! How much would you normally pay for an injen intake? 300 or so...and in most cars see a tiny boost in performance! Here we have 12-15 whp - WHEEL HORSE! We're talking 20+ crank horse! Not to mention that it's across the whole powerband! Where else can you get that much hp and tq. from at this cheap a price? Not to mention how easy this thing should be to install...it just bolts on! And hell...most of us in the group buy just want to save SOME cash...we're not even doing the work to set it up. Spicy, red, and I think someone else are chopping down doors at vendors to get up anything! How about we give them a tip with each order?
(/rant off)
Of course...that's just my opinion...I'm sticking to it. And though it's been said before, Thanks to Steph and Red for giving the untimate sacrifice...losing your car to mad scientists and not knowing how it will come back!

Believe me...I've had to pay that price for thin little p.o.s. books. I'm not in school anymore, but I can't fina an aerospace job so these books are just to keep up to date in my field. If I could just slap down my credit card and make shtuff appear then I probably wouldn't enjoy it as much...it's almost like that whole distance makes the heart grow fonder (or sometimes curiouser...hehe) but in this case it's patience makes the result that much sweeter. yes it was me. yes i expect feedback. But it does get to a point where things get alittle crazy. All these misconceptions about when the Intake will be out especailly. I went to Rim of the world rally this weekend. injen had a booth. I knew the reps behind the booth. We talked about the date and they said 1-2 weeks. That means vendors will have part numbers any day now... along with pricing. Please be patient.,,, i am not delaying this any. I will get pricing as soon as i get it.

Once again, the BOV heard in that video is from a WRX, it is not coming from her car and does not sound anything like what the stock Bypass valve sounds like with the Injen. LoL, you might want to go take a little drive and listen a little harder. That BOV in the beginning is the sound of a WRX with an HKS SSQ, do you hear how high pitched it is? The stock Bypass valve on our car makes a deeper whoosh sound.
Go listen to RX-KEVIN's video and you'll hear the high pitched sound from his SSQ and then come back and tell me that your stock BOV makes the same noise.
I know you always have to be right, so regardless of proof you'll never realize it.

blowing, and the shit mike rigged up to it. There is no way, it could have picked up anyother cars sounds, especially that far away. And since the intake, my BOV has taken on a higher pitched sound. as Ive said, video exclusive to this isse will be taken this weekend. So please refrain from your guessing game.

Strange how it seems a lot of the MSP owners constantly fight about everything and any little detail.
Hope we don't lose any members over this, and hope some members can learn to keep personal attitudes away or at least cool down.

Members shmembers---they're still people not primates. Where are you hearing the two sounds, RE? Can you pin point times?
You know what I think? I think the Intake MemphisRacer made will probably perform nearly as well as a $250.00 Injen. He put it togther for a little over $30.00. No idle issues. And; it's away from the fan blowing.

Does anyone have the new Dyno #s on the Injen, since it had to have the piping adjusted (or whatever they did to eleviate the stalling)?
servoeyes
05-08-2003, 04:14 PM
I don't have the dyno for the new injen, but is there a dyno for memphisracer's? There's at least one injen dyno that shows 10hp gain and reportedly better from the new. I guess I'm just naive, but I'll take their word for it.

Sorry I just use the word member figurative for when referring to people on this forum that I haven't met. Nothing negative meant by it.
The second BOV noise is around 1:18-1:30. When exiting the corner you can slightly hear it. Plus at this point the Blue WRX isn't there.
Not a big deal though, like it is being perceived. Just sensing other tensions that are propelling this way beyond any needed means.
However it is their lives, they decide how and why and we don't have much say.
Just hopes everything gets resolved.

AGR, the intake on Memphis's car runs behind a heat soaked area. It also retains use of the stock plastic piping to the turbo, which is a bit restrictive.
Switching to the injen brings in less restriction and placement towards a lower and colder location. It's good for a little bit more power and the driveability issues are resolved with the new design. I'll take pics and video tonight of the new setup.
