Will the K&N drop in part # 33-2134 fit in the MSP?

I did a search and didn't find the answer so maybe someone out there can help.

Thanks,
Kristi

I also would like to know this.
It's an allowed mod for autoxing here without changing classes.

Same reason that I am interested. Want to stay in DS and would like the K&N drop in.

If you have the sam e2.0L engine as other 2003 proteges (minus turbo of course) then yes, it will fit.

We can ONLY use the drop in filter for DS autocrossing.

Huh?

We race the car and the class that we are in is a stock class. We can not add a cone filter to the car and remain in stock. We can only replace the air filter with one similar to the stock filter. Or we can remove the air filter but we do not wish to do that.

Thanks. I thought it would but hated to waste the money if it didn't. Can always find the answer here!

ALL Proteges have the same stock airbox, so yes that K&N drop-in will work fine.

KBicknel: Please do a dyno run before and after with the drop in K&N! I know, that's kind of expensive, but I'm in the same situation: DS or STS?

The Injen intake numbers are really attractive: 8% more hp and 7% more torque from 3000 to redline. I'd like to know how much of that is available from the drop in K&N.

Anyway, let us know how it feels before and after! :)

At the very least, either my husband (Distanttea) or myself will post a review of the filter. I think we have made the DS commitment for this year but are thinking of STX for next year...maybe!

like kristi said, any intake mod will bump you up to STX, not STS

fyi, in STX you'll be running against WRXs IIRC.

pick your opponents wisely ;)

What is the K&N drop in part number? I tried the one that fits all of the 2.0's and it does not fit in the MPS. The MPS has a much smaller airbox. Well, I'm wrong, I have a K&N filter in the car right now. Works great!

I was asking about 33-2134. Is that the one that didn't fit?

Yes I think so. The filter for the N/A motor is too long to fit the turbo airbox.

Part# 33-2134

I dont have this yet but some people say it's fits just fine..others say it doesn't. I have no clue!
Might want to look at the stock one and then look at this one just to verify before buying.

AGR- did you notice any gains using that small filter? I ended up getting a bigger cone (6" element)- the one you gave a part number for has an extremely small element on it. Maybe I am just used to using 9"-12" filters on the Talons and such, but it still looked too small to me. I can't see how it would flow too much..

I bought the K&N drop in that was listed for the 2.0 Protege. It took alittle extra effort to put it in, it wasnt a perfect fit, but in it went! Works fine for me. :)

Well, the rubber edge on the K&N was a very small bit thicker than the stock filter. It just took alittle more patience to get the notches back into the loops then the snap downs fit back in place perfectly. I think it works better than the stock filter.

same experiance here...was a tight fit...but eventually made it....does it make a difference...it did for a bit....then the ecu adjusted to more air.

The WRXs are NOT the cars to worry about in STX.... The E30 M3 (the old 4 cyl M3) is a MUCH more potent package, and there is word coming from the guy who handles classing that the EVO8 WILL BE ALLOWED IN STX!!!!!! Apparently, it's been doing poorly in AS, so they think it'll be fine in STX. I think it'll be a ringer car, making EVERYTHING else uncompetitive, but we'll see. I'm in STX right now, but I'm going to run the car in DS in the future, BTW...

WHAAAAAAAT??????? Evo in STX? Jumping Jesus on a pogo stick... We know one of those guys at scca who do classing and rules verifications.... we gotta ask him what the hell is up with that.

STX... christ on a cracker...

That's more or less what I said. The real question now is are they going to change the forced induction rules to allow the SRT-4 and WRX STi as well..... DS looks better and better to me. Especially with the noise about ALL 330 BMWs going to BS!!!!

BTW, it's nice to see a FAMILY here on the site! My wife and I AREN'T the only couple campaigning a MSP. I didn't realize Kristi was your wife until she said so above (thumbup)

Hey, just to clarify- I wasn't knocking you, just curious about how well the filter worked for you due to it's relatively small element area.

Looks like a huge fight is breaking out at SCCA about this STX stuff...

I've been taught by last year's STX national champion Jeff Brown (not that I learned anything other than "Stop doing that and we'll stop spinning")... personally I don't think an Evo has a chance against the Type Rs. And if someone could squeeze another 50 HP out of legal STX mods on the mazdaspeed I think our cars would do great as well.

Oh well... kind of off topic.

I think a properly sorted out EVO, or STi will ANNHILIATE everything else out there in STX. They aren't THAT much heavier, with TONS more power and traction...
