Are you mad that an SRT-4 (or mp3 turbo) can beat our MSP?

Well SRT-4's are good machines no doubt, but im tired of everyone running around thinking they are like the "best" or somthing. For as much money as it would cost to mod our MSP's to be as fast as a SRT-4 we could buy a hatch with a swap that would blow the SRT-4 out of the water! Another option is a 2nd Gen AWD DSM... Thats exactly what im doing lol. I would not trade the looks, and handling of my MSP for the speed of an SRT-4 so I decided to just put a few more "performance" mods on my MSP, and spend most of the money in looks. I am sure its the opposite with SRT-4 owners lol. I am also going to start a civic hatch up soon just so I can beat the SRT-4's who think they are hot shit running around at low 14 second 1/4 miles. You can spend about $5k on a hatch (crx, or newer) with a swap (all motor) that not only runs 13 second 1/4 miles but also looks a hell of alot better than an SRT-4 lol! So if your a little mad becuase the SRT-4's faster just save up some money and go buy junkyard hatchback shell swap in a motor put some more "stuff" into it and go have fun at the track! haha I cant wait :D

(chair) I don't drag race or street race, so I could care less how much quicker the above mentioned is. There are many, many, many reasons I chose my MAZDASPEED over anything else. On looks alone, that's a good enough reason; in my opinion. (btw: I like the MP3 just fine)

I was just reading the Car and Driver review of the SRT-4, and it sounds like it is a great performance car, but not a great day-to-day driving car (they stated something like that in the review). Prior to getting my MSP, I drove a Camaro Z28. It had lots of power and was lots of fun when you were able to actually use that power. However in spite of the lack of gut-wrenching torque, I find the MSP a much nicer car to drive. It is quick enough to give you some hustle when you need it, and the handling is superb. There are also some smaller details that I like such as the shifting (clunky in the Camaro and apparently not much fun in the SRT-4) and the stereo system. I chose the MSP for its blend of decent performance and practicality. The SRT-4 sounds like a really fun car and I'm not going to bash it, as I'm sure there are many people who would prefer the bias towards performance like I did when I bought my Camaro. However the common theme in this thread, and from professional reviewers, seems to be that the MSP is just a great all-round car, and thats probably what most of us were looking for.

na, i'm just playin, i think street racing is stupid (although i have been known to watch). i don't do it anymore since i almost killed myself when i spun out and ended up 2 ft from the retaining wall... that was a big wakeup call. so i just watch. i know its illegal, but i've cut down a lot and now i'm getting into rally and road races. so are a bunch of the other ppl at my school. they are choosing subis (WRX and STi) over civics and drag cars. sure you can make a civic go fast, but can it take the greuling (sp?) lenghts and the elements?

Like has been said before, the SRT-4, while an AMAZING straightline racer and not-too-shabby handler, isn't the best car for daily driving. Owners have commented on the car's rather loud exhaust (no stock mufflers), restrictive seats for bigger people (I have broad shoulders), and excessively tight suspension (to the point of discomfort for some folks). ...Not to mention its cheap looking sheet metal and very boy-racer looks.

I see the SRT-4 as being the balls-to-the-wall, race-track machine, where the MSP is the more refined, well-rounded, aggressive daily driver.

Stop it, of course, car looks ugly...but its ok, will only lay on reliability over time.
All reviews put the mazdaspeed following the srt, and surprise...the Civic Si as the worst car.
But, the new Type R is comming later this year with aprox 192HP.

in all honesty I'm just a japanese car nazi, I can barely admit the new tiburons are sweet because it's korean, although they are. I also would never want to own a dodge because my aftermarket parts would come from mopar. I coudl never be proud of mopar, just the image is has, I'm sorry, heh. If I owned a viper, I would probably stick to hennessey and never get near the mopar image, not to mention, really dodge as a quality production company doesn't do too well, even the viper has horribly uncomfortable seats, and the interior sucks and falls apart. Also according to my friend the exhaust burns you all the time, but that's just cause he isn't used to side pipes, haha.

The guy raced a SRT4 with a M3, SRT4 had the early advantage but after 3rd gear it was all M3. But the funny thing is, he gave ton's of respect to the great handling and awesome power of the SRT4, funny how the guys driving M3's can be nice and respectful but most of the guys on this board have a hate-on.:wtf:

I dont know of which FI cars you speak of but most come with more than a measly 6psi.......Ala Diamond Stars/WRX/Colts/Omni's with 10psi.....Course there compression Ratio is actually more set up for a boost application.

Fact is the Neon is pushing more boost.....

So what, You are happy right?????

That would be intereseting. But not really needed, an SRT/4 forum is already in the works.

But lets keep something in mind.
Why do people hate honda owners, simply they pretend there cars are the best, I feel that this mentality is foolish and we are above that. Be VW, Mazda, Mits, Dodge, Nissan, Acura, honda it doesn't matter most people are here becuase they love there car and want to make it even better. Discusion is always good but in a mature manner is best.

Also keep in mind that the Protege is not build for Turbos. it can't take much. this engine will not sustain the dodges power, EVER! Its not designed to, then next generation 3 will probably be.

If you have a protege and need more power then the Doge to be happy get a new car. This car will need an insane number of upgrades including engine internals and transmission to take it. If you are happy withthe perfomance then don't worry about what dodge offers or any one else. you have a dman nice ride, Enjoy it :D.
