Like every one else i thought it was cool that our car had a MP3 player but i never used it. recently i have been trying it out and i found out that i can fit 150 mp3 on a CD!!!!! I downlaod so many songs i ran out of songs to download. I have about 20 albums on 3 CDs!! I wish i had tried this out early. Every one should take for advantage of there MP3 player. No more buying Music CDs!!!!

Eh. I get picky about sound quality. MP3's are not the best.

i think this deck sucks!!! i have been nothing but disappointed in kenwood. one little scratch on the cd and it won't play, sometimes i have put in new cd's and they skip like crazy. i would never recomend a kenwood product, i disliked kenwood before this and hate their products now. i had a alpine in my jeep and never had a problem with it, so as soon as i have the money i'm going back to alpine. alpine is the best in my opinon.

I currently have a Clarion. Never liked kenwoods much for any type of audio.

Just so you guys know what big pieces of shit Kenwood makes listen to this.

I bought a Kenwood Sovereign series 400 disc DVD changer on Oct 15 of last year. This is the top of the line shit. On Nov 15 I had to send into the shop for service. It would get about halfway through a movie and then stop and say that the disc was an unsupported format. They had the player 2 weeks and sent it back to me. Still had the same problem. So on about Dec 15 I sent the player back to the authorized Kenwood repair center. They had it until Jan 15 and called me to tell me they couldn't repair it and would have to send it to Kenwood in Cali. I got my player back from Kenwood on Feb 15. 2 months without a player was just crazy to me. I will never buy another Kenwood product again.

Just to make it worse, I emailed Kenwood at the end of Jan when they still had my player. I received my player back, sat on it for 2 weeks then sold it on ebay. The day after I mailed it off to the guy, which was roughly the 5th of March, Kenwood emails me back. They want more info from me so they can track my player. I sent them a very professional email detailing why they suck balls. Still no response.

Sorry for the long post. Moral of the story is fuck Kenwood, fuck them up their stupid asses.

Kenwood ain't the best, but it ain't the worse eithier. Kenwood was much better years ago, like 10-15 years ago. If I put my own stereo in this car, it would not be Kenwood. Although, I am very happy with mine. It doesn't sound great at REALLY loud levels, but I'm not the type to have it on 30 all day long either. Usually around 15-20.

I've personally never had any issues with my deck. Although, I did loose one speaker. Replaced under warranty though, and that only took 5 months!

MP3's kick ass. I can't beleive you've never used it. Don't download anything less then 192 bit rate though, because it sounds like crap. I use a CDRW, and I just add songs to it as I need it. I've had the same cd since I bought the car. I'm not kidding. 1 cd is all I've ever bought since Sept, 2001!

I just erase it when needed, and start over. I would never go back to a cd changer.

yeah. I was just to lazy!! lol. but i want to let every one know i have the z828 which is far better then the z919. i have had not problems with it. It's great and has good sound quality. now for the reason it doesn't sound good when you put it up high is the sub in the back sux. it wasn't made for high volume. it's a stupid bass tube. iwould never in my life buy a bass tube. And to let every one know i use to have a awsome set up. i had a NICE clarion head unit, 2 12" JL audio W2, Fininity cappa cabnit speaker with a two nice sound stream amps powering evey thing. so iknow what goos sound. JL audio is the SHIT!

but the MP3 set up with the z828 is great for a factory setup in a 20k car. come on guys what did you want? But i also have a 7" kenwood in dash TV and it's great!!! no problems what so ever and the picture is off th hook so i'm happy with what i have in my car!

the new series of alpines play mp3 at an affordable price now. according to your local sterio shops , on price , we sell ours for $ 230. (cda 9807) or all lines of rockford fosgate decks will play mp3 but of course RF didn't jump on the xm radio like they sould have so Alpine is the way to go. either company is an excellent product. p.s. i have 30 full albums on one cd , that's 698 songs on 1 cd!!!! now thats one less thing i have to worry about when the next prick that wants a free ride and steals my sh*t again. think about it 30 cd's at $10. each ......thats $300 they didn't get and i'm sure all of you are like me... you own quite a few more than 30 cd's.....i'll sacrifice the little less sound quality for that.

I third that. It's funny to hear people bitch about one of 2 bad experience with something. It's also strange considering that I've had nothing but Kenwood products in my cars since I was 16 (I'm 23 now). I've never had a problem with any of them. The only problem I've had is that someone stole one from the junkyard it was stored at I wrecked my car and couuldn't roll down the window.

Hey Pro5man, why didn't you just get a refund on your player? I don't know the details of the ebay auction, but it sounds pretty shitty to me that you just took and dumped your problem on someone else. It's crap being done like that that gives eBay a bad name and makes people wary of buying things like electronics from it. If you were upfront with whoever bought it, then I apologize in advance, but if not, well.....(piss)

I am on my third faceplate on my z828. The first two, the graphics on the display screwed up. Funny thing was it was only the graphics and not the font both times. I haven't been too upset about it as Mazda keeps replacing them under warranty.

and there is me, a lazy bastard with a deck that has never been able to play mp3's. I have the 919 and it plays cda with no problem, but I have never been able to get the mp3's to play. And I have tried everything from different burning programs to different media, with folders and with out, none of it ever worked. Even emailed kenwood and they couldn't tell me jack.

The mp3's are very nice, but... with the z919 you cant ffwd through songs, this bothers me.

Thts suxs. the Z828 allows you to do this but very slowly.

PaulMP3
03-17-2003, 12:40 AM
with the z919 all the mp3 feature are extreamly slow. it takes forever jsut to go folder to folder. i think the z919 was pretty early mp3 technology, im sure they are much better now. I personally wouldnt buy a cd player without it.

Jumping on an old thread here, but I can't find any specific info with a search. (Yes, I tried first !!)

I seem to have 2 problems with the Z828. It seems to like to skip on the first 1 or 2 tracks of a cd only. Never a problem with anything past that. Also, it sometimes cannot read my mp3 cds.

Is this a 'go get it replaced under warranty' issue, or could there be a simpler solution ?

Thanks

Try to burn you cds at 8x speed, my z828 never skip.

I am more than happy with my z828, even though it might no sounds to best, but it does look good. Friends who sit in my car always think I have spent big bucks of money on the stereo, but in fact, it is stock. What else can you expect from a stock setup???

I will give that a try, but I am getting this with cd's that I actually bought (way back in the days before mp3's). We will see what the dealer says about it I guess.

Thanks !

I need to find a good XM-compatible head unit for my car.. I've had a lot of problems with my z919, like..

If the CD's a little scratched, it'll go nuts.. my friend's player can read a CD that's been through hell.. but mine can't.

There have been times when it just WON'T WORK.. the red button at the bottom would flash on and off but the head unit wouldn't power up at all.. and then it would randomly come back.

I dunno.. little shit like that.

But my dad's got an XM subscription and I'm gonna leech off his account.. because I love that ish.. mmm, channels 80, 81, 82.. all the trance/techno/house I need.

if you are wanting to go with XM you would need to get an Alpine, Sony, or Pioneer...if you want to go with Sirius you can go with Kenwood or Clarion. actually every company has a satilite radio but those are the main brands.
Both have 100 stations, XM is cheaper but has commercials. no commercials with Sirius. I have had them both and currently have Sirius and like it a little better...more music oriented whereas XM is more variety...

You should try mp3 encoded in Lame 3.9x. The sound the best in my opinion. Anything about 192kb encoded in lame sounds close to cd quality IMO. Lame VBR is awesome to but the files can get quite large.

For the best quality I download MPC files though.
