I was on my way home from work and noticed a yellow 4 door sports car comming up in the fast lane. At first I thought it was 2003.5 MSP but the front air dam was shapped different. To make a long story short each time we raced 3 sperate times (cause of traffic ) I was already in 3rd gear, the SPEC-V would hang with me about 1/4 way through 4th then I would start to walk away from them. By the time I hit 5th it was pretty much a done deal. Each time we raced i ended up 5-6 car lengths ahead of him mid way through 5th. I never ran above 120mph. NOW from what I understand the SPEC-V should have taken me. I have NO mods to my little MSP. I need to find this kid again.

No,....No! Worry not of such trivial things! If it has to do with your 'Kick Ass' MAZDASPEED - post here too! Afterall; this is the MAZDASPEED forum, unless I am mistaken; and I really don't think I am!

I love my MAZDASPEED!

OK well thank you AGR#7. I have been reading these forums for a little and have noticed your name and you to LinuxRacr. You both seem knowledgable on the MSP. And from a newby I thank you.

I can believe it. After test driving both, the MazdaSpeed felt like it had a better top end. The Spec has good low end torque. It was easier to drive in traffic. I've been short shifting 1st, 3rd to 5th all day and keeps with the flow fine. Since I already own a P5, I went ahead and bought a Spec instead. Plus both MazdaSpeeds I drove had the stumble problem and I couldn't tolerate that on a daily basis.

With the addition of my K&N, the stumble is gone for the most part (90-100% gone). (thumb)

....not to mention, a little added oooomph!

your point? I spanked a MSP, and other stock specs have spanked MSPs.

It's all about the driver. The Driver makes all the diffrences, with 1/4 times so similar.

Launch is important as well, and the way you shift.

the MSP has a stronger top end than the Spec, but the Spec has a stronger low end.

*puts on flame suit*

Don't forget the driver makes a diffrence. So don't go calling Bs on my kill, just driving a fast car doesn't mean you'll go fast.

On equal conditions with equal drivers, the MSP should pull away in the long run, it has more top end, and you can launch it alot higher than the spec.

No hate, just love :)

I've pulled away numerous times on both bottom and top end in my Spec V vs. Mazdaspeed. I think some of the other MSP's may run better than others. I might try again with the addition of the CAI to Spicy's car.

My spec put down 145whp with the AEM intake. SpicyMSP put down 151whp with her intake. Remember the gearing and powerband are much different on these cars. I will keep pulling past 135 when the MSP will run out of gears.

Here we go again..............the age old battle.....

Spec V SE-R vs. MAZDASPEED
Focus SVT vs. MAZDASPEED
Neon SRT-4 vs. MAZDASPEED

.........and the list goes on!

Can we all not just get along??!! (chair) (probably not)
(rofl) (rofl)

Personally: I don't give a Rat's Ass what car is quicker or faster than my MAZDASPEED. None of the fucking competition offers more of a balanced package for the dollar. Period! (oh; just my opinion) (k)

Very true indeed folks, this type of battle should never take place on the streets as it is dangerous. The best way to do it is take all of them to a track, have compitent drivers in all cars and let them go at it. My opinion is that the SRT-4 is the only true MSP on the track due to it's power difference. But hey, that's what larger displacement will do for you. I'm not saying that the Spec V sucks at all though, I too have driven one, but I really hated the shifter on that thing.

Another thing that I feel that magazine reviews should do is when they test all the sport compacts, they should put the same tires on all of them. That way, you can get a true comparison. We all know (we all should), that tires make a big difference.

HUH well I believe in my abilities to drive. I am going to try to find this kid again and we will race from a dead stop. But WOW it is always nice to hear encougering words from others. Like Daemos, j/k. I am not all about speed, cornering and passing are my forte. I will keep you posted if I can find this kid, hey maybe I will have it video taped for all to see. Even if I lose :o(

That's talkin some sense.

I for one don't mind the "vs" threads, as a prospective buyer interested in the comparisons, but being a fanboy in either direction just isn't very helpful to anybody.

It does get retarded though to start comparing this $20k car to $30-$35k cars (STI/Evo/G35/etc), since they aren't really the same market at 150%-$175 of the cost.

ding ding, we have a winner.

Flas out the MSP is faster than the SpecV. BUt they are so close in speed that it really is a drivers race.

i've repeated this many times but, I owned a specV and I now own a MSP. I've gone to the track numerous times in each car (stock).
SPecV 1/4mi. 15.2@90
MSP 1/4mi. 14.9@92

So with equal drivers the MSP should always win.
BUt since the cars are SO close in erformance it really is a drivers race.

That's so kinda true...true..;) But what the ideal of these (ISR) which is import street racers, is that they drop different motors into there cars...ps CivicS, Integra's, SI's, hatchbacks,etc.... They have a incredible street machine and go punk other import/domestic people to run'em and spank em and it always turn's out" get that domestic V-8 out of here(rant) when any kinda import wins. That's what get's people all wound up and thinking there car is fast and untouchable. This is where the opponent say's to himself ahh heck no, i just lost to a 4-cyclinder rice burner, and go get's himself a Dual exhaust, including a K&N fipk kit and goes back to redeem himself. Common now this is a 24-30$ domestic V-8 that shouldn't be compared to a 13-18$ 4-banger. But still they don't care and compete with each other. And they rant all about who's car is quicker,"i payed this for that and your blahh..blahh cost this or whatever" and i still whooped your A%%. People who are newbies into (ISR) think this way and that's how people think there car is fast for what they get it for and slapping all kinds of fart can exhaust along with there decked out stickers. See What actually made this happen was the mistake of "FATF" fast and the furious. There were a whole bunch of mistake's in the movie but the part where people got really into it is where they fix up the 2JG-ZE Supra and smoke the heck outta the Ferrari. Yeah it's possible, but this is a real sport car and luxury sports machine. Price range for a new 95 Supra would be 35-38$, and a 1998 new one would be 42$. K i know it's not nowhere in the same Price range as the Ferrari $100/220Ks but it's somewhere in the same category of performance wise. But this is where people go all out on sport compact or luxury sedans.(no) (no) to think this way.
