Does it matter which brand of turbo timer to get? I'm liking the blue display on the Greddy, but I've seen where Vega installed a Blitz.. Does it really matter?

they are all good names, it depends on the look you are going for... some people like to get all their stuff from one company(intake, ic, exhaust, turbo timer, etc.) i wuold read some costumer reviews and ask the people from flyin miata and spoolin, along with those members that have turbo timers installed

They all work the same and contain a couple dollars worth of electronics parts. The main consideration is style and possibly features (like the Blitz has the built in boost gauge.)

Anyone know if the Greddy (http://www.greddy.com/products/electronics_frame.htm) would fit in the pocket to the left of the wheel under the foglight toggle & guage dimmer?

Actually, does anyone have the dimensions of that pocket? Anyone mind measuring it?

yes it would, mines not installed yet but it does. i tested it, it would be mounted on the roof of the pocket. looks better. but yea it fits perfectly

Is there a big deference in installation from the greddy & the blitz DTT?

i think the APEXi one has 0-60 timer. thats pretty cool. does the GReddy or HKS have that?

It doesn't look as neat though ;P

Anyone wanna take some pics of the unit installed? I wanna see how it looks when all is said and done.

Unfortunately I don't have a digital camera or else i would take pics of my Apexi TT installed. I custom mounted it in the bottm pocket. I looks pretty sweet. Hoefully i'll be able to borrow a friend's digital camera soon so i can post pics.

Well I just bought the black Greddy TT from spool-turbo.. Don't even have the car yet and I'm already buying parts for it. :D

Did you have chose between the black & silver?

t3ase
02-25-2003, 10:04 PM
Yeah I went with black so it'd match a bit better and not stick out as much over underneath the foglight switch/guage dimmers. Silver would also look kinda good, but black seemed like it'd be a bit more oem looking. You agree?

Yes infact HKS does offer one that does 0-60 and 1/4 mile times.
In the end, who f*cking cares, because they all do the same thing.
Pick one that you like the look of or extra features they offer.
Better yet save yourself $80.00 and don't buy one.
If I'm not mistaken the MSP's turbo is water cooled meaning you don't really have to worry about letting the car and oil cool down.
Don't forget some aftermarket alarms have built in turbo timers, and on some cars its a pain to get the factory alarm to work with turbo timers.

i was wrong, its the HKS like you said, not the Apexi that has it.

i was just wondering, i still havent bought one

As mentioned before the MSP *is* water cooled however a) it's yet another safety net for us who want to actually keep this car and b) it looks really nice.

Do people in civics/accords really need A-pillars for gauges? I doubt it and I think most of them do it for looks. I plan on getting some gauges at some point too, but they're a bit more justified in an MSP with the turbo and all.

That's just my opinion, though.. ;)

While I don't really think its really needed, I do agree that it is cool to have one. Turbo timers do come in handy when you drag or auto-x your car, but other then that don't serve much purpose.
I like to use it to warm my car in the mornings by putting it on for 5 minutes and then taking my keys and locking the car.
It also looks cool in front of people to have your car shut off all by its self.
I just think the money would be better spent else where.
*Warning* Don't make a habit of leaving your car running while unattended, I've known people who's radiator hoses have gone (or something else) and have messed their car up pretty good.
Oh and please don't start comparing the MSP crowd to the typical Civic or Accord owner. ;)

are the turbos water cooled? that's what seems to be implied. it might just be a water jacket, but a turbo timer will still be needed unless the turbo is a ball bearing which I doubt it is.

I would go with any of the major turbo timers

The turbo is both water cooled and ball bearing, so IMO its not really needed.

I *may* actually go to some SCCA meets now.. I dunno. Anyway, Spool-Turbo.com (http://www.spool-turbo.com/) has Greddy Timers for $79! Lowest price I've found anywhere, plus it's the company spooln from the board works at, so even better.. ;P

I have the Greddy silver one, I mounted it with my Boost controller (which is for sale :)) stacked on each other in the pocket behind the door under the radio. They all almost install the same. Different ones have different features IE Blitz has a boost gauge so u have to run a boost line. Greddy has a Speed meter so you have to wire it into your speed sensor wire (if u want to) also has a lap timer and 0 to 60 stuff. Like said above they all do the same thing. I paid 80 bucks for mine and everything else I have is Greddy so . . . (except my boost controller which is for sale of course :) to get a greddy one)

Gotta question for ya then. If I have *no* electrical background and little mechanical background, will I be able to decipher the instructions or should I take it to a shop to do? 122 Vega made it look so easy, but I know projects may appear easier online than they really are.

Um its pretty simple just use a voltage tester and get the blue simple wire splicers and its 3 wires (without optional stuff). And you are done. But as always it would be a good Idea to get someone to do it for you if u are not comfortable doing it

I wouldn't rely on you TT to act as your boost gauge (if it comes with that feature) since you will have to look away from the road to look at your TT display if you need to monitor your boost. A high-mounted gauge would work better since you can see the needle position out of the corner of your eye and you would have to look away from the road.

check Britt's site a little closer. he states that he had installed or worked with custom car installation for several years so he may be just a tid bit more mechanically inclined than your average shmo. probably why he made it look so easy

Hey I-Am-Chris, I just received my turbo timer. I was wondering
if you ( or anyone else who knows ) can help me out on finding the speed sensor wire? Where is it? Everything else shold be fine,
I just want to have this option... Thanks.

I'm sorry Dexter, but I'm still in the learning phase, can you be
alittle more specific??
I think if you can tell me were the ECM is located, I can count
the pins to fine pin 58, RIGHT????
Thanks....

hehe i dunno man i just went to Car Audio/Electronics section and its in the sticky at the top of the page *shrugs*

if you search theres a digram floating around of the ECM i think...and in the HowTo section, on hookin up A/F Guage, Linux shows how to get to the ECM. :)

I was going to get the blitz, but I wanted a boost gauge & I
didn't need two of them.....
Here's a pic of my greddy, I installed it last night & finished up
the speed hard wire today ( thanks Dexter, it was pin 58 & worked fine ).........

Reason I mounted it there was to have a good sight of it when
I'm in attack mode & the real time digital speed is cool too.

i cant decide between the greddy or blitz with boost gauge...
