View Full Version : msp beeping like crazy?!

hey can someone tell me why my msp was honking like crazy while i was driving it and how to fix the problem. someone told me that it was the car alarm but how could the alarm go off while i'm still driving it? i parked it in my garage and it still kept going for a few secs until i did something (who knows). and it has stopped so far. i'm kinda afraid to touch it now.

hey steph,
i'm over it and yes, i still like ya. ;)
there is a knob underneath. i've read that it was some sort of sensitivity knob. which way would i turn it so it'd be the least sensitive OR can i just disable the alarm altogether?

ok well, i was in the car adjusting the seats and the car started beeping. i reached under and pressed that button. i am wondering why the car seems to want to activate the alarm by itself. when i got out i locked the car and pushed down a little bit on the trunk and the car locked itself and also turned the alarm by itself. i could tell cuz i saw the red light turn on. i unlocked it and waited a min. it locked itself again but didn't turn the alarm on. weird.
only reason why i'm freaking is cuz it's 12 am and i'm living in a condo where these garages are all connected. this nonstop beeping could get me in trouble. anyway, i'm not gonna touch it until tomorrow morning...

In my MP3 I had simular problems. Everytime a dump truck went by the alarm would go off.
Take it to the dealer and have them turn the sensitivity down. The setting is somewhere under the driver's dash, I could never find it (not to mention the awkward angle).
The dealer knew right away.
I don't have any problems anymore, I would assume your alarm is simular.
Tim
If the car is on the alarm, if properly wired in hould never be armed, ever. No sensitivity dial will affect this.
Did the MSP come with the alarm or was it an option at the dealer?
If a dealer option then someone just installed an aftermarket alarm and did a shitty job of it to boot.
Either way get it to the dealer to look at and if you have a video camera, since you know the dealer will say they can't mimick the issue, film it happeneing.
Basicly it sounds like the car isn not diasarming the alarm.

I would go check witj a dealer to see if it is wired properly, but I do know this, if you use the remote to unlock your car and you dont start it within like a minute than the car will automaticly arm itself again. it is a saftey feature i guess. also if the alarm is going off then your engine will not start.

ONe thing to add is the car will NOT relock or rearm if the door has been opened before the automatic rearm.

i dont know if this will help but when i first had my car serviced there was two p5's and one mp3 there that were all going off for what seemed like an hour and i asked and they said it ws the weirdest this that all at once three seperate owners had brought there car in for that and they said it was a malfunction on the alarm that they could not get it to shut off unless they disconnected the battery so who knows
dafababa

1st mp3 in nh Mine will re arm even if im am sitting in the seat after i havre gotten in the car then if you wait long enough it will rearm. then you go to start the car with the key and the alarm will go off
If you disarm and unlock, then open the door before the rearm, IT SHOULD NOT REARM. sounds like a logic problem in the MSP keyless entry modual.
Is your alarm stock or a dealer option?
krillin
02-20-2003, 12:39 PM
when i was at the dealership yesterday he didn't mention the alarm being an additional option. i'd have to say that it is stock. i just woke up now and i'm gonna go check that sensitivity knob thing
Is there a siren when it goes off or does it just homk the horn?

the alarms should all be from code alarm mine is but the horn goes off not a siren. I think that if you double click than it will disarm totaly and not re lock and arm. you are probably right
MSP's do have the horn hooked up, and no siren. I was kinda disappointed in that actually as well as the fact that we didn't get a different remote. You just hit the LOCK DOORS button twice to arm it.
....didn't like my Horny joke eh? LOL
dafababa
02-20-2003, 01:40 PM
You dont even have to hit it twice the first time you hit the button the regular alarm starts, like if sombody breaks the window or the door handle is opened. and the second time you hit it you get the perimiter alarm

well, i turned the knob all way (counter-clockwise) and then i stepped outta the car and went inside. normally when i get back the doors would be locked and/or locked with alarm LED on. but now that i turned it all the way to the lowest sensitivity (i am guessing) it doesn't lock at all unless i lock it. weird huh?
you think i should call up mazda or just go with it?

I would personaly either go to your dealer or go to a reputable shop that installs alarms and ask them what the hell is going on. that is what i did with the radio i had no clue.

Have u Installed anything on your car??? the reason I ask is cause when i was hooking up my boost gauge i touched the sealed fuse (Alarm fuse) in the fuse panel by accident and my car flipped out. Make sure there is nothing toching that fuse (little white box on the bottom of the fuse panel) or make sure nothing fell down there.

hey guys. i turned the sensitivity down all the way thinking i disabled it but then i drove like 4 miles with my brother and it started beeping again. worst thing is that i was at the intersection of a mall so there were a lot of cars. i freaked and went to a parking lot and phoned the dealer. they were like, "we are not sure what the problem is. bring it in." the only problem is that they are 40 miles away. there is a local mazda about 3 min from here. i stopped at work. i pulled out the horn fuse so the car wouldn't beep. i hope they'l be able to fix it. i was showing people here at work my car and i could see the red light above the steering wheel flipping out. phew, good thing i took out that fuse. anyway, it's bad enough that this is my first manual car but this stupid alarm thing had to happen. if you can imagine how freaked i am right now. someone said that there could be a short in the alarm. to be honest, i didn't even want the alarm but o well. i'll keep you guys posted.
If you only have the mazda keyless entry / alarm system then I have no idea what you adjusted but it wasn't for the alarm.
GET ME PICS!!!!!!!!
The Keyless entry modual, on the rear deck, is most likely screwed or one of the wires is. Maybe they shot a screw though a wire when putting in the audio gear.
All mazdas I have seen work the fallowing:
1 press of lock locks all doors and activates the passive alram that will arm in a few seconds.
2 Presses of lock, locks and arms the car.
1 press of unlock, unlocks the drivers door only and disarms the alarm unless the door is not opened then it rearms.
2 presses of unlock unlocks all doors and disarms the alarm but I haven't ever tried to see if it will rearm after a double press.
Take the car to a dealership and do absolutely no modifications untill you do. Do not take it to a stereo shop as the dealer will give you shit about it.

k, this is what happened today. i brought it to the dealership, diff one from where i purchased, and the technicians kept insisting that the alarm WASN'T factory. they claimed it was aftermarket. i had to call up the person who helped me at the other dealership and convince the repair rep and techs that it WAS a factory alarm. finally someone checked it out but didn't really know what the problem was. so he made a call and reset the computer i guess. he unhooked the battery for like 30 secs then rehooked it. everything reset. we tested the alarm right away. it freaked like 2 secs then stopped. the tech said that maybe it was some self test. after that we drove it around the auto center and no weird beeps. i was kinda afraid to drive it at first but i just did anyway. i drove to work to pick up something then i drove home. it didn't beep at all. it SEEMS to be fine now. one thing who knows about the alarm system though on THIS particular car.
if i get out and DON'T lock the car then walk away, then when i get back the car will be locked and the alarm on. is this supposed to happen or what? when i was at work i left my car unlocked for like an hour and when i went out it was still unlocked. this is really really weird don't ya think?
need some input please...

I have not played around with this particular alarm...but I have a CODE alarm on my CRX. There are different ways to set up the alarm (I have no power door locks on the CRX)...
1. You manually arm the alarm with the lock button and
a. the alarm sounds and lights flash
or b. the alarm doesn't sound and lights flash
2. The alarm automatically locks and arms after (i think) 30 sec. and
a. the alarm sounds and lights flash
or b. the alarm doesn't sound and lights flash
It may be the same with this one, and it may not....the automatic arming may not be a problem, but they should be albe to deactivate that function.

My speed did this once as well. I suspected that the alarm was tripped, but haven't tested that theory.
I did have a very odd occurance happen after I parked it in my garage. I had parked it about 30 minutes earlier and then it sounded the alarm even though I never set the alarm when I originally parked it inside. I disarmed it with one push, and in less than 30 seconds it locked the doors and rearmed. I disarmed it with two presses, and when it didn't rearm, I got in and drove out. I was on the way out so I'm not sure if in the process of getting my coat/gloves on that I bumped the lock button or not, but it hasn't happened since.

thanks for the input sp far guys but it still doesn't explain why the alarm tripped while i was driving it on the road. all the technician did was unhook the battery to reset everything, including the alarm, hoping it would fix everything. it SEEMS to work now BUT i was able to drive the car 40 miles from the dealer to home on the freeway. even though it's not doing it now i wanna know what tripped it. how could resetting the computer fix the problem? will this happen to me again?

Louie,
congrats on your MSP.
Most alarms have a setup that is needed otherwise they are set to a defualt. It is possible something in yours was set wrong based on the install mazda did and when the battery was unplugged the alarm went back to its defualt which is where it should have been the hole time.
Of coarse this is all speculation.

Jim, thanks. i didn't get it from irvine. i got it from cerritos. i still have to get my deposit back too.
you could be right about the alarm. i woke up late and had to go to work but i decided not to take my msp. just took my other car. i'm hoping that it's the way it's supposed to be. if you can just imagine driving your first manual car and then suddenly the horn honks nonstop. it sucked...
oh, and they drilled holes in my bumper. said it came like that from the factory.

krillin and others,
now MY code alarm is doing this. going off while driving. it happened after install of my turbo timer, but my timer is installed correctly
soimetimes the doors will lock....soemtimes no....something is really fucked tho....its really embarassing to be dirving by and having your horn going off like an insane llama fuck or something....
i reset the battery countless times, unplugged the MAZDA VEHICLE SERURITY SYSTEM box brain, reconnected everything, checked every fuse, every wire, no shorts , nothing blown.
SO FUCKING CONFUSED.
I read the install manual and I think something must be hooked up wrong.
Did you use the Tach and speedometer hook ups aswell?
Dexter

you read the HKS install manual? how should it go?
yes i used the tach and speedo hook ups
Just letting you know I read it too in an attemp to help out better.
Where did you grab the tach and speedometer signal?
Also where is the ground for the unit.

thanks man, i appreciate it
i hooked up tach and spedo from around the gauges. didnt want to go digging for ECU and i was already in the area, so why not. seems to work fine. even if i disconnect them from the timer, the alarm still gets wierd.
hrm yes perhaps my ground is not good or something, .... i grounded to some metal tab underneath the steering column...damnit i really need to take pics when i get home...

hmm, after about 2 months the beeping starts again. today i was on my out of my neighborhood to go to work and i stop at a light. all of a sudden the alarm goes off like it did before. i went back home and popped out the fuse for the horn. i was able to drive all the way to work (about 8 miles) until i made the turn entering the parking lot, then the alarm goes off again but instead of beeping i just hear clicking from the lights. man, i just don't understand why it just happens again AFTER 2 months out of the blue.
the only thing that i did was adjust the sensitivity because ppl in motorcycles kept driving past my car and setting my alarm off. but i did that like 2 weeks ago.

i think i fixed mine somehow...
i unplugged the entire alarm box....left it out for 10 minutes. reset everything. plugged the batter back in, but not the alarm box. then i locked and unlocked the doors (the remote door lock unit is seperate from the alarm box). then i plugged everything back in, and its been working 100% fine for the past 5 days.

dex, how did you unplug the alarm box? what does the connector look like?
Dexter
04-26-2003, 08:15 PM
ther are 3 connectors
one is like 4 pins, one is like 18 and the other is 2
4 pin one is the shock sensor
2 pin one is the starter (key side/ motor side)
and the 18 pin one is the main control shiat like door lock horn output etc etc
its on the left side under the dash, says MAZDA VEHICLE SECURITY SYSTEM or some shit

dexter,
so it's been working for you the past 5 days? how manys times have you done this to your car? i went to look under and DID find the box with the 3 connectors to it. when i moved the box around i started hearing the clicking sound. i took out the fuse for the horn so it didn't beep. if i unplug all 3 wires then am i disconnecting the alarm fully? if so, can i just leave it like that until i find time to go to mazda? i just wanna be sure that it's ok to run the car without the box hooked up. also, i saw a small part with a fuse in it. the fuse didn't seem to be in straight tho. just thought i'd mention that.
this alarm thing has happened since the first day i got it. i should've brought it back and got another new msp. guess it's too late now...

The alarm is standard equipment. The Monroney sticker lists "PERIMITER ALARM" under Standard Equipment. The car came with a Mazda Security System Owner's Manual. The physical alarm system has a Mazda sticker on it. The motion detector has a Code Alarm sticker on it.
My alarm light is always fast blinking when I come out of work. I figure vibrations in the parking garage must be tripping it. I can't tell what the alarm code is because my horn has NEVER worked!
Under the dash and above the Mazda security system is the motion detector. Tapping the motion detector very gently with my finger causes an LED on the motion detector to activate. The motion detector has a little white knob for the sensitivity. I am going to have the dealer fix the sensitivity when they fix the horn.

Krillin,
There are 2 known problems with the stock alarms:
1. Set too sensitive. Causes the alarm to go off due to loud noises. Does not cause the alarm to go off while driving. This can be fixed by turning down the sensitivity.
2. Defective Control Modules. Many of the control modules for the alarm go bad within a couple of months of purchase. My MazdaSpeed tech is very familiar with this problem. Usually this cause the parking lights to stay on when you disarm the alarm. Also, in my case, the alarm would go off and could not be stopped short of cutting power. The solution is to replace the module. The dealer can do this.
I have an appt. to have this fixed. Until then, I have been pulling the alarm fuse. It is inline on the power wire to the alarm, under the dash (15 amp). The only problem with doing this is that you can't use keyless entry. If you do, then the alarm will cut the ignition until you replace the fuse and disarm the alarm. Then you can pull the fuse again and the car will start.
Hope this helps.

So there I was, eating a red hot beef Tina's Microwave Burrito and watching TV and my shit starts beeping. Just a continuous beep. Run outside and disarm the alarm. It stops. The lights stay on. I started the car and then turned it off and the lights went off. I didn't disarm the alarm again.
