Hey I was curious, for those who have opened the air box already? Is it a flat filter or cone filter in there? I have just been reading how people have been putting a cone filter in the air box and I am interested in replacing the air filter with the K&N. What model number is the one everyone has been using, and is it easy to swap? Thanks guys....

Hi! It's a cone filter. You remove the airbox completely. Britt (122 Vega) shows it on his site. I have ordered the K&N Cone filter, and maint. kit. It's RU-3580 for the filter, and 99-5000 for the maint. kit.
Here's Britt's site: http://www.geocities.com/kiva75/
Here's the dealer I ordered the filter/kit from:

The car comes with a flat filter, just like a regular Protege. To switch it to a K&N, you remove the airbox and replace it with the cone filter.

After looking at Britt's site, I'm a bit confused. On the CAI #1 page, the K&N filter makes the intake seem extremely short. Then if you look at CAI #2, it appears that the intake extends all of the way to the coolant bottle and then goes down into the hole. What extension did he use to have it reach that far? Anything non-stock? I don't have my MSP yet, so I don't know how far the stock tube will reach, but I wanted to ask.
Also, I was thinking about ordering a K&N filter, but if Injen releases the intake, will I still need the K&N or will it come with it's own filter? I don't want to spend money when it's not warranted.
Thanks.
