Ok, this topic has been a long time waiting, never really had the time to write here on the US forum.
So... 2008 Mazda 2 1.3 with everything on it, here it's called "Te Plus" brilliant black, got it after some rather hard financial effort to get a credit from the bank, would have gone for the 1.5 but I didn't have the money right then and besides, I wanted some fuel economy for long trips, since for the previous 3 years I was a Nexia LPG (very economic).
So, first mods done:
- painted the rims black (FAIL)
- painted brake calipers and drums in racing red (success)
- installed a cheap sport muffler (success)
- installed a panel filter from K&N which I later on sold to another 2 owner (success, fail economic-wise)
- bought a JBL GTO 75.4 amp from a friend
- powder coated rims flat black (success)
- painted the mazda emblems glossy black (success)
- 2 red striped on the car, I don't longer have them on the car (success)
- black tints on the rear windows (95%) and 27% on the front windows (success)
- black foil on the tail lights and the Lucas side signals (success)
Next stage with mods done:
- H&R lowering springs -40mm
- H&R spacers - 25mm on each side, for the rear axle
- LED light bulbs all over, inside and out (except for the headlights and fog lights of course)
- LED red footlights for all four passengers
- LED white light in the glove compartment
- LED red light in the opening where you stick your hand to open the trunk
- fitted a BMC DIA 70-130 cold air intake, following the advice from the guys from VDS Racing Greece, they put the same air filter on the 1.5 with very good results.
- fully dressed the car in flat white and glossy orange, using Oracal products
- powder coated rims glossy white
- stickered on some decals, some decals are still being drawed (vectorized in Corel)
- installed an In Phase XTB 10R subwoofer (pretty small, but very powerful. I still got room in my trunk, yey! )
Wait, not done with the text...
Next mods:
- custom exhaust, using 48mm pipe, custom header and custom Lambda fitting to trick the ECU (I'm keeping the cheap sport muffler since the sound is amazing)
- ECU remap - rated at 95bhp and a +13Nm, hopefully it will be more since I have the (very effective) intake and the custom exhaust
- Turbo project - postponed for next year - target is 0,5 bar with a boost controller, will fit an intercooler and water spray on the intercooler, I'll need it for the summer
My OLD Mazda 2 album is here:
album (http://www.seatcupra.ro/index.php?app=gallery&module=user&user=1&do=view_album&album=1)
I will upload the newest pics to Imageshack in just a second, so that everyone can see the recent photos I have of the car.

I just contacted the guys with the remap, a new company here ( I think), they said they got the remap I need, and also for my friends with the 1.5
I'll try to get some info from them, to see what software maker they are dealers for, maybe you can find it locally or convince a local dealer to source you the remap.
Pictures with the engine and intake... donno, in the weekend I hope.

Only the center caps are red, the mazda emblem is the original silver.
And they are separate pieces of plastic, no problem with painting them separate or whatever you want.
In what country won't you see this kind of colour combi? :)

It's pretty simple, yeah.
Just take them off, sand them down (a lot) with sanding paper, I would recommend a rough grit first... you have to eat through a lot of that silver to take the shine away.
Then you can clean it with paint thinner (primer sticks a bit better), give it 2 coats of primer, two coats of paint, and two coats of clear lacquer.
The emblem must be placed front side up (it will stay horizontal with it's fixing pins, but for the trunk badge you will have to make a paper shape, for it to stand on (so that it will be horizontal).

Here people are less creative and their sense of aesthetic is not as strong.

Ok, some info I found, through necessity:
The only clutch kit I found is made by Exedy.
The info UK/JP is different, but you can get an idea.
UK site:
http://www.exedy.co.uk/index.php?main_page=gsearch_results&my_page=sports&q=Mazda%20DEMIO&submit=Search
flywheel kit or simple kit.
Japan part number search/correlation with OEM:
Pressure plate // Mazda OEM P/N ZJ01-16-410 // Exedy P/N MZC652
Clutch disc // Mazda OEM P/N ZJ02-16-460 // Exedy P/N MZD115U
Pressure bearing // Mazda OEM P/N FP01-16-516 // Sachs P/N : 3151600503 or 3151858001 (I don't know if both Sachs part numbers are correct)
Exedy Japan does not have a P/N for the pressure bearing.
I asked for prices from two local Romanian suppliers, and I also sent an email to Exedy UK and asked them for UK MSRP prices (see the link above, two types of clutch kits).
I'll let you know the prices, but as a reference, Exedy JP gives us MSRPprices:
- 93 USD for the clutch plate
- 82 USD for the clutch disk
these prices seem acceptable...

I don't suppose you have the price for Jun S-Metal Disc / Ultralight Flywheel, or do you? (drinks)
vdsracing
11-22-2009, 12:13 PM
Yes I have it.The price is of my local dealer here in Greece and it is 1150euros for the 4.6kgr flywheel and the S-Metal kit.
A bit expensive but surely has a very good quality.
I think we have the same flywheel-disk etc with other mazda models like mazda3 1.6 and some 323,mx3.So we can find cheaper stuff if we do a good research on what is a direct fit to our car.
vdsracing
11-22-2009, 12:14 PM
The price here for the 4.6kgr flywheel is 560euros.

I actually did some research on allmazda.net and our clutch parts are different from all other mazdas...
As for the price, it is kind of a lot, but I know it's worth it. Do you by any chance know the weight of the original flywheel? It would help me decide if I should put my money where my dreams are :)

The Exedy clutches are actually both without the flywheel, they wrote it wrong on the website
Dear Mr. Dendyuk,
Thank you very much for contacting EXEDY Clutch Europe Limited and for your interest in the EXEDY Racing Clutch range.
I have already made a preliminary reply to Mr. Enache at Racing Nick, so he will reply to you shortly.
ZK07H is actually an EXEDY Uprated Sports Organic Kit ZC15T Cover and ZD15H Disc
ZK07T is actually an EXEDY Uprated "S" Type Metal paddle type Kit ZC15T Cover and ZD15T Disc
For the Bearing, BRG871 which you have on the Kit number we are not sure if that is correct? Is it a Concentric Slave Cylinder design.
At the moment EXEDY does not offer a lightened Racing Flywheel for this vehicle application .
So, the above are EXEDY Single Series Racing Clutches, not standard OEM Kits.
Thus, we will continue our investigations and reply back to Racing Nick who will in turn reply back to you.
Yours sincerely,
Richard Ford
I sent them another e-mail, with my local dealer in CC (RacingNick) and sent them the picture of the replacement pressure bearing (CF-303 from JAPANPARTS) along with a compatibility part numbers list from allmazda.net (attached)
I also asked my dealer to get in touch with JUN and CUSCO as I want a light flywheel in the begining of february.
If my local dealer's price for the flywheel is bigger than what Vagelis wrote above, I'll get it from Greece :)

Racing Nick (local dealer):
Exedy ZK07H871 Sports Organic 388 Euro including 19% VAT
Exedy ZK07T871 "S" Type Metal 417 Euro including 19% VAT
Kind of pricey, but if they are indeed better than the OEM, (an Exedy OEM replacement kit goes for something like 200 USU), then I'd like to get myself a S type metal kit in december (2thumbs)
The clutch kits include the pressure bearing BRG871.
5 days delivery.

There is also one more VERY intresting thing that would help us.
We must find and compare the part numbers of our stock camshafts and the camshafts of the 1.5 zy-ve engine of the previus demio that wasnt drivebywire and had 111hp stock.
I thing we may have different camshafts because of euro4 specifications and maybe the camshafts of the previous model would be a cheap and direct fit power boost for our engine.

Too much of a headache Vagelis... just port the engine, enlarge the intake and exhaust in the cylinder head... much easier mod :)
That and the light flywheel.
But on top of that, I hope that by the end of june I'll have a 1.3 turbocharged... so wish me luck (drive2)

I'm in contact with the owner and the tuner of the turbo Mazda2 in Taiwain made by mrs.If you are intrested in turboing your car send me a pm and i'll give you info.
Also,I'm not sure if porting the head is an easy job to our engine and in order to be done the best possible work,a lot of reasearch must be done.If someone tryies it,just let us know.

I actually talked to a guy at Superchips Romania, and he redirected me to go for an Eaton belt driven compressor, or maybe one off of a Golf G40 (or G60 maybe).
The ECU remap is much more safe using the compressor, being a linear AFR setting, and the power is delivered better and safer.
So I'll hit the junkyards in december...
The rest of the parts are pretty much the same... FMIC - 150 euros, boost controller - 50 euros, fuel pressure regulator - 100 euros, custom exhaust - 300 euros, day at the dyno + ECU remap - a lot of euros, clutch and flywheel will be installed only if the compressor works :)
So, the costs are actually smaller than turbochargning the little lawn mower engine...
vdsracing
11-24-2009, 05:47 AM
In my opinion the best compressor to be fitted is the rotrex. It is compact, easy to install, has its own oil circuit, has low temps while working.
The 1.5 with a rotrex @0,5 bar and stock motor produces about 170hp!!
It is made by knight sports.
mihaidd
11-24-2009, 01:27 PM
I think I'll go for the VW G60 (0.6 bar) which is pretty cheap arround here, or the Eaton M45. The Rotrex is quite expesive (brand new)

Go for it!Keep us informed about the project and keep in mind that many things won't turn out the way you plan.So you must have extra money and patience in order to do something good, powerful and reliable.Good luck.

11-25-2009, 01:45 PM
I think I'll might have to save some money and buy a replica G60 compressor, if I don't find a G60 in good shape or a good Eaton... I'll let you know anyhow, but next year :)

What bulbs do you have in the front parking lights, and what size is your muffler, also what did you use as grounding point 4 ur amp. Did u cahnge the dash lights?
mihaidd

I have some LEDs (W5W socket) for the front parking lights, and also for the rear license plate, some Philips blue vision for short/high beam, and standard fog light bulbs. Don't know the size of the muffler, I know it's pretty big, but the exhaust pipe is stock 43mm, no change. Grounding point 4 amp? Don't know exactly, I know the guys from the shop hooked up the wire to one of the screws that hold down the rear seat. I didn't change any dash lights, jut LEDs on the inside (foot lights). Sorry for the very late reply :(

And a short video of the exhaust (last summer)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H6QRSOefz8s
The rumble when the revs drop was done by slightly getting some gas to the engine while the revs drop :P
Dyno'd the car last summer (no ECU remap, stock power is around 86HP @flywheel)
92.2HP at the engine, 68.3HP at the wheel, 128.2Nm torque

Please nothe that this car is a four speed minicar... 1st gear - 60km/h, 2nd gear - 100km/j, 3rd gear - 138km/h, 4th gear - 195km/h flat out at 6500+ RPM, 5th gear is only for highway use:(

Changed the brake discs and pads saturday, got simple ventilated Zimmerman discs and EBC DP22003 Green Stuff brake pads. The disc were about 105 US$ and the pads some 75 US$.
I won't describe the operation in detail, there are plenty of youtube tutorials available... I just want to mention that you might want to take the lower screw from the left shock out, to have better access to the upper screw that is holding the brake support in (not the caliper). On the right wheel you have good access to both screws so no problem except that the big screws that hold the brake support in place are a pain to take out...
Also, there is no safety screw holding the disc in place, there is though the hole for the screw, you can use a 8x1.25 screw to pry the disc out. I didn't have a screw like that around, so I just used a hammer :D
Oh, and make sure you have a friend around to help with the excess brake fluid coming out on top, from the brake fluid canister, when you push the piston back with your clamp and an old brake pad :)
