hey everyone, hopefully somebody here with more knowledge than me can help! I have a 2000 1.8l protege and I'm pretty sure I'm having misfire issues, but I haven't had a CEL come on so I can't get it scanned to find out for sure. So I guess thats kinda good, maybe it hasn't caused any real damage yet! Anyways my symptoms seem similar to those other people have had from what I've read on here. Occasionally the car hesitates when i go to give it gas, and pressing harder on the accelerator doesn't do anything, but eventually it comes back and runs fine. A couple of times the RPM's have dropped down when its idling at a red light or something, but mostly its the hesitation when accelerating, both when I start from a stop or when I'm accelerating in traffic. Also when I put it in reveres the RPMs drop down and it runs kinda rough, but never stalled. The spark plugs and wires are a year old so I dont think they are the problem. From what I've read it sounds like it might be a coil issue or a EGR value, but before I start taking things apart I thought i'd check to see if anyone has any other ideas. Anyways, thats it (for now lol) thanks a lot!

There are a bunch of things that can make a car hesitate:

dirty air filter
dirty fuel injectors
vacuum leak
loose spark plug wire
damaged spark plug wire
ignition coil going bad

I'd start with the easy (inexpensive) stuff, first. Good luck.
