View Full Version : Brake handle buzz

My 2008 Mazda 3 has an annoying buzz coming from the button on the end of the hand brake handle. Simply touching the chrome button when it is buzzing is enough to stop whatever vibration is causing the noise. The most obvious solution is to tighten the cable that would normally connect the brake handle to the rear parking brakes but I am unable even see the cable much less any adjustment points.

Any ideas?

Twist it like you are screwing on a nut. That might help..Other than that, I dunno.

Do you recommend that I post this question somewhere else on this forum?

Welcome to the forum.

Your post is in the correct place, it's probably an uncommon problem. I don't think cable adjustment is the problem. It could be the spring under the button on the handbrake handle. If the noise stops when you touch either the handle button or the handle it may be in the pivot area of the handle. There has to be some play in the mechanism for it to function properly. It's simple ratchet and pawl system with a spring for control. I doubt if can be easily fixed. A replacement lever may corrrect the problem. I have a 2008 Mazda 3 and haven't noted the problem in may car.

Sorry I cannot provide a simple answer.
