Went to start my car today and it turns over, but won't fire. It has done this before, after a hard rain, but this time it has been dry as a bone. I hadn't driven the car since last Thursday. I checked the distributor cap for moisture, but still won't start. Car usually runs like a champ, just this intermitent starting issues. Any ideas?

Car details:
'96 MX-6 LS MTX
2.5 Litre KLDE
142K miles on car & engine

Well, an update....... I put the trickle charger on the battery last night (was starting to get a little run down after all the starting attempts yesterday. Pulled the charger off this morning, and the damn thing started right up with no issues, hesitation or anything!?!!! I think this car has some mysterious gremlins in the electrical system .

Give the car a tune up maybe that's what it needs.

It actually sounds like either the Crank position sensor, or the ignitor (which is inside the distributor).

The K-series engine (all of them) have had known distributor issues for as long as forever.

Make sure you do not have something drawing from your battery like a short or something being left on.

The crank sensor would not be intermittent. If the crank sensor was bad, the car would start, but would misfire really badly all of the time..but it would start.

It likely is not the ignitor either, they are not something that gradually goes bad, it is usually a good one time, done the next, type of failure.

Check the ground wires, and the battery cables. A lot of the time the cables or grounds will corrode or get brittle and break.
