ahhhhhhh my alternator.

ok.....man i hate auto zone lolz. so my battery light has been on for about a week. i didnt think anythin of it cause i could still drive it and it never died. well so i go to kragens to get a new battery or check it out. the guy says ur battery is bad. so i buy a new one and install and the light is still there. so the manager comes out and says your alternator is bad. so im like wtf. u just said its the battery. so i said can i get a refund and he says no its a used part now. ..........so long story short he tried to charge me 170.00 for a new alternator. is there anyplace i can get one cheaper and does it matter what kind?

what if you took the battery out and returned it at a different autozone...? would they have any way of knowing?

alternators pop up once in a blue moon in the FS, one just sold a couple days ago. don't get your hopes up though, and all the bookmarks i have for mazda parts list alternators above 170, so that might be your best bet

I have a spare alt. it just doesnt have the pulley on it let me know

I would wreck that manager in the face if he did that to me. Return it to a different autozone if you can and just go to the junk yard and get a alternator off a protege maybe cut the price in half?

Edit: or buy his alt and use the pully and crap from yours??

yea you can take the pulley off your factory one with a impact gun it pops right off

There are a lot of places that rebuild alternators. I've had it done in a couple of cars and never had a problem. Paid $25-$30 and worked as good as new!

Ours has internal regulator part of why they run 170 everywhere. At least get one with lifetime warranty so you won't have to ever pay for another one. It'll just be time spent to remove,return,install.
