zm-de engine swap?

I was just wondering if a 99+ 1.6 zm-de was possible to swap into a 95-98 1.5 z5 protege dx? and will the auto tranny match up? Has it been done before? Im not really into performace but just looking for a new engine for fuel econ.

I have the zmde, its an alright engine but im almost positive the transmissions are completely different and you would have to basically change everything to do the swap. ECU, wiring, trans, mounts, etc... Basically its not worth it unless you really love your car. hope that helps

actually on both cars, they share the same manual transmission so I bet similar auto trans, however I bet the bell housings are different. As for the whopping 10hp gain I wouldnt think it would be worth it, why not look into doing a 1.8 BP-DE swap which i believe came in the 95-96 2Gs?
