SmartCard/Key is more expensive than regular fob.

If you have two, you can buy an extra one (new) and program it yourself.
If you have only one left, you have to go to dealer to program the second one (new).
If you lose the last one, the entire ECU also has to be replaced.
(that is also why it is more secure than the switchBlade fob).

The cost of the SmartCard/Key runs about $150 blank.
It takes about $100 or more for dealer to do it for you. Some extra for cutting the metal key (laser cut by digital code).
If you lose both, you will be looking at $800+ or more to replace
the ECU + two SmartCards/Keys + programming.

So, don't lose BOTH. My best advice on this subject.
You can program up to 8 smartCards/Keys with the ECUs.

Yes. You can program a third one (and so forth) by yourself. (See a thread in How-To sub-forum).
The price of $400 seems very high. You should have shopped around before you went in.
$300 is about the norm.

And, a lot of used ones on eBay for less than $100.
Check compatibility first before you commit, though.

I had the car in the dealer for the door trim , lower gaskets, and brakes.
I guess I paid for the conveinence of having the key and programming done while I was there.

Images on smart key are not very durable--I can no longer see any of the button images on the key I carry. They all wore off in less than 2 years.

Lower gaskets... what was that for?
