lol check the heat shield someplace but something is vibrating thats not a rod knocking it would do it at all rpms have someone hold it at 2g rpms and go explore i bet its a vibration some place though

stop driving that car NOW that is defenatly something to do with the rod! most likely a spun bearing. tow it to a shop now before u do more damage!

it is possible for you to do this job yourself. it might help..
buy some OE bearings, drain the oil, take off the oil pan, and windage tray, and replace the bearings.. it might help you!

but the question is, is it the bearings or the rod?
well. by taking that stuff apart, you'll be able to see if it's bent or not.
..with that, you can decide what to do. having a shop check it out is going to tell you one thing.- you need a new motor. which MAY not be the case.
SeR_Cyclops
10-29-2009, 11:53 PM
Lol that is the question. Man honestly if you have tools and some know how tear into the motor. see what the problems is. If it is the bearing the change it. Think about it, its not like you will mess up the motor by digging in to it. most shops will tell you to get a new engine anyways.
P-Funk!
10-29-2009, 11:54 PM
A heat shield will 'buzz' at certain RPMs
Valves will clatter and get change as RPM changes (1/2 RPM)
Rods knock :( They clunk at low RPMS and sound like sneakers in the dryer.
Thefriar
10-29-2009, 11:58 PM
rod knock will happen for the whole rpm range and should be there even @ idle, and will get louder as the eng. warms up and the oil thins so it doesnt really act like rod knock but it def doesnt sound good
yellow pro5
10-29-2009, 11:59 PM
ok another thing is it a stick could it be the preasure plate or something i dont know just throwing out all ideas bc i knew it was too quite to be a rod knocking

that's the beginning of rod knock.. his issue anyways. i GUARANTEE THAT IF HE KEEPS DRIVING, IT WILL BECOME EXACTLY WHAT YOU'RE EXPLAINING.

dude. i'd at least pull the pan to check.. bearings are way cheaper.. than, purchase a used motor, and build it.. or a block anyways(i have a few laying around i could get you for cheap), and then turbo that..

well even if it was the bearing, wont the the part where its connected to the crank shaft be worn as there is no bearing between the piston rod and that part of the crankshaft itself?

it's not necessarily that there is NO bearing. the damage would be much worse.. but just that it scored the bearing.. the crank is forged. it'll take a bit more damage than the bearing would. without fucking it up.

i was told by a mechanic that if i was to try and fix it, it would cost me alot more than a new motor would run me up cause i would have to pull the engine, get a crank rebuild kit rebuild tha crank and all this other shit..
am i being fed some BS?

it is a possibility. but how hard is it to take off the oil pan and windage tray to CHECK if the bearings can be replaced??
i know of MORE than 1 person that have just replaced bearings and went about their day.. car still runs fine..all they did was bearings, no rebuild kit.. i'm trying to save you money..
and it would be stupid to buy a used engine for like 500.00 when you're gonna build it. buy a complete block, and go from there. like i said, i have a few laying around that i could hook you up with.

ok i am lookin for the cheapest yet the safest way out, so if i replace the bearings and then wait a few weeks or so, do u think it would be good to go ahead and turbo the car?

honestly, no. i would think the motor has issues, i would go ahead and just do the bearings for it to run. ya know?? and do what i said, and get a block/crank and buy forged stuff and THEN turbo it.

i c what ur sayin, but i was thinkin to go ahead and get the used motor and get it put in my car, then wait a month or so, then turbo that. while in the mean time, keep my old motor and forge and build that as it is goin to take a while for me to save up enough to go forged. i only make 7.75 an hour workin part time so it would take me a good while to go forged! whatcha think?

well. honestly.. sounds ok. but it might be best, to at LEAST check your motor and see if you can replace just the bearings.. it should last a decent time. just dont kill it driving hard.

Well the alternative is, if u want to still use the same engine, u can take out the crank shaft and get it machined, then replace all the rod bearings. gettin a new engine is the cheapest way out
by time labor and the machining comes into play and parts, its goin to prob cost u alot more to do it that way
i would just get a new engine, and keep the old one and build it!! im talkin forged pistons!!!!!!!!! then drop that baby in!!
