yea you should be able to remove it.
Just make sure you go to an a/c shop, and thell them you just want your system "evacuated" with no refridgerant re-charge
them take it home and rip it out now that it's empty
oh and you can do away with the heater too if you want
them you can remove the entire evaporator housing from under the dash, if your looking to save weight
You just get a hose fitting and loop the heater hoses back into each other
Dont open the system without evacuating it though
r-134a will give you frostbite, and more

And I believe you would need a different belt? The power steering and A/C run off the same belt do they not?

oh ok, thanks, i wasnt aware i had to empty the system first.

this is my concern, im not sure which belt to get, does the a/c run to the power steering though?

The A/C and the PS share the same belt, but run independent from each other (from my layman's perspective). If you remove the a/c components, you'd have a belt that would have way to much slack in it to work the ps. I'm sure there's a proper sized belt that someone has used on here. There has to be someone on here with no a/c but still kept the ps.

Hmm. That seems simple enough. I didn't know these cars ever came without a/c?

first i ask to the OP, what is the purpose for which you desire to remove the a/c?

can you share some more details with us? what did you do with the metal lines?

i never use it, i dont need it, i want the most room possible for the turbo, so why not remove something that is just taking up space.

put them in a box? lol
the hardest part is removing the interior evaporator, everything else just unbolts
if u r only doing it for the space i wouldnt do it, it really doesnt interfere with anything, i did it because my system broke and i rarely used it anyway
