2010 Mazda 3 and Speed 3 short shifters poll!

Good morning everyone, and specially 2010 Mazda 3 and 2010 Speed 3 owners,


So we have been working on brand new short shifters for the 2010 Mazda 3 5 speed, 6 speed and the 2010 MazdaSpeed 3. We are pretty much ready to start prototyping and testing but we would like to have your opinion before, we value what our customers think and we want to offer the best products for your needs!

There are basically two options.

Our first design would reduce the throw of the stock shifter by approximately 30 to 35%. It would not affect the overall height of the shifter, only the throw. It’s important to note that with this option, a TWM shift knob can be installed to lower the height by up to 0.75” inch as compared to the stock shift knob.

The second design would reduce both the throw and the overall height of the stock shifter. Considering the height reduction also reduces the throw, it would be slightly more aggressive than the first option and the stock shift knob would sit lower. If you are interested in this option, we would also like to know how much height reduction you would like. Please also note that with this option, you can still add a TWM shift knob for an extra height reduction of up to 0.75” inch.

Please note that it would also be possible to get only the first option (throw reduction) and add to it later the second part of the shifter that will reduce the height of the shifter. Basically two stages of short shifters.

Personally, I really like the stock knob, and I like the stock height as hand travel from shifter to steering wheel is minimal. However, I would like to see what a lower shifter feels like; while it would obviously increase hand travel, it seems like about an inch drop would feel perfect for my arm when it's resting on the center armrest. I voted for a throw and height reduction (1"). A different knob could always lower it further if necessary.

We've tested the prototype for the regular Mazda 3 (5 and 6 speed) and the results are very good. We should have all the details in the next 2 weeks!

For the 2010 Speed 3, we're getting more prototyping done within the next 2 weeks.

I vote for the best of both worlds: short shifter height from stock with shorter throws. I already have a TWM Desert Eagle and I want more of height drop for sure. The stock shifter style looks impede lowering completely via the shift knob adjuster also.

They may be releasing a SSP and not a full STS. I've heard conflicting information so I'm sure we'll know something soon.

Honestly, if it's an SSP I already have a plan for the shifter. I'm going to pull it out of the car, cut an inch or so out of it and weld it. I did that with TWM's STS for my old SEMA Tiburon because the height/throw was just not enough for my taste.

That is a little bit too out there for me to just cut out an inch. If they don't come out with an STS then I will think about getting one rather than a SSP.

I think it's going to be an SSP. If that's the case you're going to have to really weigh out the cost versus some of the other SSPs out there (JSC/JBarone/etc).

This thing was promised at the end of January, and all we get is a picture of an Evo.

The short shifter we are releasing is going to be a short shifter plate. This will only reduce the shift throw distance by relocating the shifter cable attachment point. TWM decided to go with a SSP simply because of the fact that there was not enough room in the 2010 Speed3 to extend the shifter shaft as much as it would have been neccessary to get a decent throw reduction.

That being said, the shifter plate is an excellent product and will have some VERY cool features as you will see when it's released next week. If you're really looking for a reduced height, you can have the stock shifter cut and re-welded shorter or you can simply pick up one of our height adjustable shift knobs. On average, our shift knobs drop the height of the shifter by .75-1 inch; some models lower close to 1.25 inches at their lowest setting!

Let me know if you guys have any other questions! We promise you the Speed3 SSP is on its way and it will be well worth the wait. We apologize for the delay once again.

There has been talk around the shop of potentially doing something like this in the form of a full shifter assembly replacement for the 2010 Mazda 3 and Speed 3, however it will be a while before we start working on something and releasing it...probably 6 months at least.

Our short shifter and bushing kit combined together will help substantially with the vague feeling your getting from your OEM shifter
