So i was driving home two nights ago from work along the freeway, doing about 110km/h, when all the sudden my CEL light starts flashing, and the car experiences a sudden loss of rpms. It started to shake and sputter then it started to sound like it was dying. I seemed like the car didn't want to shift out of 3rd after slowing down. Needless to say by the time i made it home the exhaust manifold and the down pipe below it were the o2 sensor is connected were red hot (literally).
Though i went to start it today and the car seems to ideal just fine. But the CEL light is still on. Has anybody experienced this before?
any help is greatly appreciated!!(thumb)

hate to say it, but just from your symptoms sounds like your cat is clogged.

And you need to fix the misfire that caused the raw fuel to kill the 'cat...
I suspect a coil failure.

yeah exactly so i picked up my equus code reader today (which by the way is the best tool anybody could have!!!) and it is a miss fire, so its a possibility that the cat is still fine, and all i need are new plugs, wires, and packs!!!

Probably killed the cat in the process still.

Sounds like what happened when my fuel pump went bad. If the sputtering/loss of rpm's happens more often at highways speeds when you're below a quarter tank have your fuel pressure checked. This will sometimes trip a misfire error code but not all the time.

^no. The red hot indicates raw fuel burning in the cat/exhaust.
