Hey all. New to the forum. Just got my 2007 MS6 a couple of weeks ago and it's already the been in and out of the shop a couple times. I was getting misfire codes and the dealer originally thought it was a bad ignition coil. They replaced it and I got the car back and the cylinder 2 misfire showed up again the next day.

I took the car in on Monday and they told me i had a bad timing chain. They said they would order the parts and the car would be done by Thursday. So I called today expecting to get my car back and the service rep tells me the parts for the timing chain are on back order until November. He said this has been a big problem with MS6's. I thought that was strange because I had never read anything on here about it.

Anybody else having timing chain issues?

I am now stuck driving a Mazda 6 rental. This car is sssssssssllllllllllllooooooooooooooowwwwwwwwwwwwww ...

you are the first ive seen with a timing belt issue . . .

But random misfires are not terribly uncommon.

How many miles are on your car?

Do chains wear out?

this is the first i've heard of a timing chain problem. i hope, for your sake, that they are correct in their diagnosis.

Compression test? If it's always the same cylinder you could have a dead piston.

Timing chain tensioner has gone bad occasionally, but no epidemic. BTW, the timing chain is NOT the source/cause of missfire codes... I'm sure you or they have replaced the spark plug(s), right? How many miles on your car? With high mileage, the intake valves can gunk up with combustion deposits in the DI engines and can definitely cause missfires...

Only about 34k on the car.

So far I've only had a cylinder 2 misfire.

I recommend you run some seafoam through it like brandini said, drive it for a few days, then change the spark plugs. Don't let the dealer near your car.

Check for water around the coil pack and spark plug recess. I had misfires on cylinder 2 and that was the problem. Probably caused by driving through lots and lots of hard rain.
