Blind Spot Monitoring (BSM) System

I saw this from Ford and I'm assuming the CX9 doesn't have the backing out of the driveway feature?

The available class-exclusive* BLIS® (Blind Spot Information System) with cross-traffic alert is yet another innovation available on the 2010 Ford Taurus. When a vehicle enters the blind spot zone, an indicator light provides a warning in the outside mirror corresponding to the side from which the vehicle is approaching. The cross-traffic alert feature uses blind spot monitoring sensors to audibly and visually alert you to approaching traffic while you're slowly backing out of a driveway/parking spot and another vehicle is nearing from either side. BLIS with cross-traffic alert is optional on Taurus Limited and SHO models. *Five-passenger Large Car class.

I doubt it because I've read somewhere that the BSM on the CX-9 is enabled at above a certain speed.

Mazda got the BSM from Ford, which got it from Volvo it owns.

The current version is only triggered by VSS (vehicle speed sensor) above 20mph.
The new version adds a new trigger (backup signal) to activate it at any speed.
I wonder if 2010 CX9 has it. Need to see the news release again, but I doubt it.

I want a front camera instead that activates at speed lower than 5mph with foot on brake.
Many luxury sedans have this. It is good for tight parking to see how close the front bumper is to the obstacle. I thought about ultrasound sensors, but it is not accurate within 1 ft. Pretty useless in such cases.

It is just a dream for now. I am sure it is possible to hack if someone is up to it.

Looks like it's still the same system for the 2010.

All the above are correct...doesn't have the cross traffic warning system. But it is a great feature; it saved me once in our 9. It's especially handy if you use your turn signals to change lanes, because it beeps loudly at you :)

I agree that it's a nice feature to have and that's one reason I wish they had it as an option and not just on the GT. As good as the BSM is, I've also had some false warnings like concrete barriers on the street or fences.

I too have experienced the BSM beeping at me with concrete barriers and other things on the sidewalk...

if the BSM was beeping that means you were using the turn signal at the time....why were you using a turn signal to turn towards the side of a concrete barrier or onto a sidewalk(thought)?

BSM can even beep because of a light post on the sidewalk while you are making a right turn, for example. One needs to get used to it. Anything that is make of some metal (such as concret barrier - with metal bars inside) can bounce EMF back and trigger a false alarm. It is radar based.

some streets have metal guard rails or concrete barriers that lead to an exit or turn out.

Yep, i take an exit everyday that has a concrete barrier that follows the offramp.

We just purchased a 2010 CX-9 GT with the BSM feature. Has been working great until we were driving last night on a rural highway and the BSM indicator light on the instrument cluster started to flash. When we got to the city it stopped flashing. Just curious if this has happened to others.

I've had this happen once as well. I just turned it off with the switch down by my left knee and then turned it back on. The "reboot" seemed to do the trick. It's been ok since then.

Probably caused by radar interference.
Any specific place that this happened? Near military base, maybe?
Anyway, if a simple reset fixed it, I wouldn't worry about it.
