i have a 2001 mazda protege es 2.0 and was wondering the next upgrade to do...
I have an aftermarket header
+ custom exhaust
cold air intake
aftermarket suspension
i am still running the stock exhaust resonator, should i remove that?

the problem is the engine has about 110k on it - no ticks or any problems, actually runs great, but as anybody would say - i want to go faster

i was thinking engine rebuild AND port n polish, or perhaps engine swap but im starting to get discouraged because im having a bit of a problem finding parts, especially used or junkyard parts.

i am on a bit of a budget and definitly a bit of a greenhorn.
Any input or suggestions, or even if you have any parts u may want to sell would be awesome
- not interested in rims or appearance upgrades just yet

Thanks, Joe

You might have better luck in the Protege forums.

Or more specifically for your engine:

*Under drive pulley
*MP3 flash (if you have manual)
*Remove the VTCS and port/polish the intake manifold

ok i have done the vtcs removal, and the pulleys will take some cash and so will the mp3 reflash, anything else that can be done? and without putting the stock exhaust back on, is there any way to recover low end torque? or maybe what are some other easy ups? ive ben to protege garage but i cant seem to find parts that i want/need for the next step for less than 500 bucks... any tips would be great

thanks a lot
