Hi All I am new to this site but not new to mazda. The 2000 Protege has been a reliable performer since new. Now 240,000 k later some minor niggles. Generic trouble code 0455...gross emission leak somewhere in the fuel system. I replaced the obvious (gas cap) but to no avail. Checked the hoses from the intake to a solenoid and then to the firewall...seem OK. Is there a way to check the system with a vacuum pump? Thought I might try the library for a service manual and schematic...Any suggestions?

Did you look at the air intake hose between the mass air flow sensor and throttle body? They are pretty cheaply made and tend to tear. My car had a torn intake hose when i bought it, and besides p0455, it had several other codes...take it off and look for tears in the accordian part...The part on my car looked fine on the top, but on the bottom almost every seam was torn...it's amazing the car ran at all.
