so i just added oil to my ms6 for the second time since ive owned the car. it has about 43k miles and i have owned it for about 2 months. i use mobile 1 5w20 motor oil. the car sat for the past few weeks due to training im in and then last night i started it up drove around with no issues. Then today i drove to wal mart and baught oil. again no issues on my way to wal mart. added 2 quarts of oil and then left the parking lot made it maybe a mile down the road and it began bogging down. the car seemed as if it didnt know weather or not it wanted to go or stop. i stoped in a parking lot then reved the engine a little bit to check for any symptoms i could and a large cloud of smoke came out the tail pipes. ?? drove it around for a few no problems then out of nowhere it did it again. i really need some quick help i have a road trip home this coming week and i need the car. so i would appreciate any help possible. thank you

every 3000 miles you should drain your oil, change the oil filter, and fill with 5w-30 synthetic, like shell rotella-T or Pennzoil Performance Platinum.... better yet just take it to the dealer....

do you have any check engine lights?

thats some sea-foam..or atleast i hope so..this thread will be moved im sure but to the OP, seriously u added 2 quarts of oil..really?? did u check the dipstick first and see if u were even low..even if u were u only add a half a quart at a time and keep checking until its ideal, u just dont go throwing 2 quarts of oil into the car.. u should'nt own a car if u did that..period.. and to top it all off u put the wrong oil in the car, u should atleast be using 5w-30 or 5w-40 if ur having the smoking issue.. drain out the old oil..get a new filter and fill the car with 5 1/2 -- 6 quarts of the correct oil and call it a day.

first off i apologize for posting in the for sale section. and yes i checked the dipstick and it was low. all the cars ive owned in the past have been pos and when i needed to add oil i needed it in quarts. i now realize that adding that much was a bad idea. and no i didnt get any check engine light. and no im not taking it to the dealer im not that stupid. just a mistake is all. i changed the oil out completely with 5w-30 and i believe the issue has gone away. thanks everyone for the help

Moved to the correct section.

Welcome to the forums. First off, make sure you're putting at least 5w-30 (or 5w-40) in the motor at all times. Otherwise, smoking is inevitable. Car takes 6 qts. with a filter change too.

Check your owners manual. 5w-30 is the standard.

Your oil cap isn't the one that came with the car. Got a pic of it by chance?

Add the pic as an attachment to your post.

From your avatar pic, it looks like a regular 6, not a speed (by the wheels).

it is and i didnt even think about the whole ms6 being a speed until after i seen some of the posts. does that have anything to do with 5w-20 vs 5w-30?

Yes, that makes a difference. Check your owners manual, you may have to use 5w-20. Hopefully another 6 owner can comment on that.
