Just got off the phone with them this site is open for july 24th as of right now, at a rate of $70/hr + refundable 250$ deposit on the date.
-Plenty of room for 60+ cars
-1dbl bbq pit
-We get the inside of the building in the pic and 360 view
-Alchol/smoking alloud
-baseball field
A reservation is made for the park shelter from 11-3 on 7/24. After that, I believe a sizeable group plans to go to Gateway Raceway, where you may or may not choose to sign up for the racing there.. or just watch.
If you plan on being hungry, bring food, if you plan on being thirsty, bring drink. Hopefully everyone shares nicely and if you plan to bring something for us to all use, a signup list to organize it would make life easier.
Charcoal, plates, etc... you all know the drill.
People who have offered to help out:
fatti03msp
BadBandar
bradboyd90
Outlawstar98 (if he comes... also if you're a mod, he's volunteered you)
NRRfrogmanP5
Jbarone
Most of us have never met, so if you think there is a possibility you may fall through on your responsibility, DON'T SIGN UP. That simple....
If you have a contact or some input, feel free to give that to me and I'll take it, or pass it to the person responsible if you don't want to be responsible yourself.
You bet your ass I'm coming, I'll move my wedding date, and leave my dying mom in the hospital to be there:

giving enough lead time that if you have a job at all, you should be able to plan enough to make it happen... assuming you want to.
Just think how amazing it would be to have not just a few, not just a row, but a lot full of MSPs... i joygasm just thinking about it.
bradboyd80
10-06-2009, 09:39 PM
Wouldn't we have better chances of gaining sponsors if we extend the invitation to all Mazdas? Might extend the list of companies to ask for sponsorships. I'm definitely not against it being just MSP's....its just an idea.

They're welcome to show, and once its organized, I'd be happy to post it up for everyone else to see.. but we need a venue, attendees, and ideally sponsors first... and i REALLY want to see a bunch of MSPs so thats how I'd like to see it put together.

I have no problem soliciting money from SU as well (just don't tell em we don't buy from em! lol), they did pretty well for MWMF, but have cheaped out badly for other events.
this is a great idea, maybe throw in autox in a parking lot for one day?
Wagonbacker9
10-06-2009, 11:07 PM
i'm looking for locations, and the parks department there only lists wedding venues that are big enough... I'm sure they wouldn't let a bunch of car hooligans rent it for the day.

I'd be good for a May/June meet next year. There's a local magazine here that I might have some slight pull in. Don't know if they could sponsor but definitely might cover the event. They put the GACC in their mag...

that would be possible, assuming they're as cool about renting it as Miller Park is... local autoX is held there regularly... hopefully not crazy expensive.

should i post this on carolina mazdas to try and get some more attention?
FlyinHawaiian
10-07-2009, 10:41 AM
Hush with your 11 hour drive nonsense... lol
I just did 10 hours straight from Montreal, its not that bad with the right company, music and food. I'll do STL I suppose
bradboyd80

I drove 16hrs to the Great Falls meet.....11 hrs is nothing. :p

15 hours for me, and looks to be 24+ hours for the cali kids
justanothermp5
10-07-2009, 10:45 AM
i already think the 2 hour drive back home is long, i think i may have to leave a couple days early and take multiple breaks on the way lol
bradboyd80
10-07-2009, 10:46 AM
What about pushing it west a little to alleviate the drive for the cali kids....Kansas City?? That's a 3 hr difference....

they'll be fine lol

10-07-2009, 10:51 AM

Wagonbacker9
10-07-2009, 11:00 AM
Nomatter where you move it to, 3 hours one direction or the other you're moving it toward some, and away from others..
as far as sponsors are concerned, I think KC is equivalent to St louis... so as long as we're talking some major metro area in the central US, exact location will only effect drive times for individuals. Anyone willing to drive 21 hrs, will likely drive 24... so... I call it a wash.
MSP 2731
10-07-2009, 11:42 AM
This is an epic idea! I will drive to where ever to make it to this.

get mazdaspeed motorsports to sponsor it.
subaru has their subaru events, like subiefest, let us have ours!
Mazdaspeed Motorsports Budget has been cut in half, so the likelyhood of them coming on board is nil. If there budget is increased it will be more than likely going to teams like Tri-Point, Freedom Autosports, Team MER, SpeedSource and others Mazda race teams.
You may have to look into Mazda's Alternative Marketing Department, as a resource.
TheDirtyGoatee
10-07-2009, 11:51 AM

Ahem... err... what? The only aftermarket I got is a billet oil cap and Tokico Illumina which look stock to someone who doesn't know.
That could probably help us land some sponsors also. If the sponsors know we'll have coverage, they'd be more likely to sign up.
Tell me if I need to make some calls.

.
Hell, i'll go back to stock headlights if I need to. Gotta have a "stock" Titanium rockin the house...
BTW, I was the sponsor coordinator for the Penn State Auto Club when we were doing the 24 hours of lemons, so I know a thing or two about sponsorship. I'll see what I can do about getting folks involved. The key is going to be getting local support from wherever we're going to be doing this, as well as from areas where significant amounts of members will be traveling from.
Put me on the planning committee.

OOhhh i like this idea!!
St. Louis is gonna be like a 10 hour drive for me. So 20 hours there and back drivin in my MSP shouldn't be too bad right? I think it would be worth it tho :) Hopefully yall can schedule it during june or july cause i wont be in school then :D. If so then i'll take off a week from work and take a little road trip.

I really don't care either way. I'll attend at either location. So about the gas card idea....how can we get some sponsors to jump on board with that instead of giving us items to give away?

was curious, the "click" i referred to jumped down my throat a while back about racing or "street racing" if u will. i can honestly say i might have "raced" my car twice since i've had it because i dont go around lookin for people to race. I just saw a guy pull up and burn off so i burned off too lol but i got all the hate in the world from the mazda police click in here. those are the type of guys i would not want to be around. its like have u ever been on a long road and just drove next to a car and yall mildly "raced". Like what is this the twilight zone, never in the history of guys with cars, nobody has raced their car outside of a track. I hate clicky types, this event sounds cool but nope i couldnt be around them.
Wagonbacker9

talk of street racing in any positive context is against the rules agreed to by every member of this forum.... if those are the "types" you refer to, then i'd like you to check the rules link in my sig. and beyond that, honestly, your attitude isn't really appreciated in this context.

Just a sugestion to those planning...check out the EECMM web site and I am sure Naoto can back me up on this, but it was one of the best meets I have ever been to...it was 5 days, they rented out a mansion, had TONS of time on the road with NO tickets that I know of...great car show with lots of great sponsors and prizes...only blew up motors in 2 cars while we were there...mine and another MS3...I will say that there were 200+ signed up, but we only had about 70 show, which is something you have to consider as well...no matter how many people say they will come, a huge majority will have some kind of excuse as to why they cannot...just figured I would post a bit...and if this isn't within a few weeks of EECMM next year I will be there...

She has hotel connections, venue contacts, etc. Not sure she'll do this for free, but she absolutely knows what she's doing and is very good at it. She is currently the event planner for the Pew Charitable Trusts in Washington DC, which is a HUGE non-profit philanthropic organization, so this would be a breeze for her.

wouldn't do it for free? does she like hondas too? gah!
we'll see how it goes... right now we need a LOT better idea of what we're lookin at as far as event type(s) and size. I'll be honest, I'm cheap... but I think given the economy, thats good if we want to get more people to come... as some will be spending a couple hundred on gas alone.

Well I can ask her if I can trade sex for her services... I'll let you know how that goes.
And no she doesn't like Hondas. She likes Infinitys (slightly more tolerable) and thinks the MSP is "the sort of car an Asian dude should be driving." She's sweet and good in bed, so I'll let that slide...
She also said that St Louis is a great place for a conference (event) and June/July is the perfect time to go there. I'll see what she has in the form of contacts for that area.

oh yeah... well... tastefully modded boosting protege sedan owned by a cool guy i've met (if only breifly) who didn't bag on me for having an unplumbed intercooler on my car at a big meet... *big breath*, is close enough for me. Plus, I can be pretty confident you won't flake out... so.. thats kudos there.

wtf? I don't remember a black MSP at all, sorry dude! and yeah, mine was NOT clean... I woke up at like 6am all hung over to help park cars for the event and did not have time to get it clean... it was spotless 24 hrs before, but a 5 hr drive isn't clean-car friendly.
you're the 3rd person to mistake my Mz3 wheels for RX8's...
oh well, they'll be gone soon anyway.

I parked the BP escort over in the non-mazdas area... but there was a turbo old gen... maybe that somehow drew my eye off your car... idk. that day was crazy what with helping out with the event, told myself next time I woudln't do that..
oh, shit... here I am! (oh well! worth it to see a big ass group of MSPs)

setting it well off of EECMM is a primary consideration... as that is probably the largest draw single meet for that half of the country, not interested in competing with it.

OK, Ken has stepped up, he would like to set up a booth there and from the sound of it donate some prizes, and manpower to help staff the event.
Guys, this is coming along nicely, for the infancy of what I believe will be a massive undertaking with GREAT reward... now to make it truely awesome, we just need participants, so figure out how to attract some people to this meet...

like I said, they're welcome, but while this is in planning stages, I'm being selfish, and trying to cater to MSP's... so we can get as many as possible. Once we've got a date set, location, etc that works for as my MSPers as possible, I'm MORE than happy to open up the invite and advertising to other mazdaspeeds, other mazdas, other cars, and like I said before, bikes, horses, don't care...
