What would be a good oil W to get before going synthetic? I was going to do an oil change today

10w30 should be fine for you year round since you're in Texas. 5w30 if you lived somewhere where it gets relatively cold.

FYI, the W represents the viscosity at cold temperatures (think of W for Winter) and the number following it is the viscosity at warm temperatures. The higher the number, the more viscous (thick) the oil is.

So if you wanted to ask that question properly, you would ask what viscosity of oil to use ;)

I run 10w30 up here. Works all year long.

10W30 is good for Houston. I've been using it in all my cars for years.
