Hello, I recently purchased a 96 protege from someone about three months ago. It was working fine with little troubles till now.

My heat gage keeps going up to H although i put coolant in.

My defrost no longer works.

The battery charge light will not go away.

And when the headlights are on and i brake one of my taillights won't come on. However, When the lights are off both brake lights work perfectly.

And at times if i am stopped or just sitting in the parking lot, it will stall out.

I'm that great with cars but i can do a few things, and i was wondering if anyone knew what could be causing these issues? I need help

bad ect, coolant temp sensor could cause the coolant and defrost problem. start there.

get battery and alternator checked at autozone for free, if batt charge light is on, but car starts ok, its probably the alternator

check the ground wires on the light that does not work, sounds like a short to ground, check the condition of the wires. also try replacing the bulb, sometimes the filament can short and cause strange things in the ground circuit.

also is your check engine light on? if it is, go to autozone and have them read the codes. report back and ill help as much as i can from there

So i got my oil changed and the coolant topped off at Valvoline... the replaced the bulb and they checked my battery and the said it was ok, so I guess i am still stuck on the defrost situation and the battery charge light also the Gauge keeps going to H

Is your radiator leaking coolant at all? If not, its probly the thermostat.
