Well, folks, hope this meets you well.
I'm trying to replace the oil pressure switch but can't seem to find it on this Mazda Protege LX 1.6. Anyone with this one who could give some detailed explanation, or even better pictures, please.
Lately, the engine idels real high when it's hot. And the check engine light came on today.
Thanks folks!

Are you replacing the oil pressure switch because the car idles high when the engine is warm? What exactly are you trying to do?

Saying its in the same spot as my f150(302) and my old 02 p5(2.0L) it would be right above the oil filter or in that general area.
It should look something like this.... No thats not your actual switch just one i googled real quick.

Hi guys:
Sorry for the late reply. But MaxPower, oh, MaxPower, you know your stuff. That's exactly why I'm trying to replace it. Oh, you know your stuff. I've bought the switch which looks like the one Googled and posted on this thread. Now, I need to know where to find it in the engine. But I'd take the suggestion given and see if I can find it. MaxPower, you must be an expert on these. So anything you want to teach me about this car, please do.
Thanks so much!

You're right about the location. I went there and found it. But I can't take it out. None of my tools fit. Is there such a thing as an oil pressure switch tool remover? How have you removed this before...what tool did you use? I'm glad I'd not damaged the one there while trying to take it out, as it was trying to come out in pieces. Please help.

yes, I have replaced it about 3 times on my last pro. I dont have any special tools. IRCC all i used was either a deep socket or a wrench. Nothing special. I know my f150 requires a special tool to remove its oil presure sensor but I didnt have to use anythign special on the pro.

There's not a single tool that I can find that fits this one. The last I bought was a 22mm. Do you recall the size tool you'd used, so I can go out today and but that same one and get this done. The one that I'm replacing with fits a 27mm deep socket.
I can't get to it with a wrench because of the location. But if you please tell me how you got to it, I'd really really appreciate that.
I noticed that it does not heat up anymore as it used to. The summer, I flushed the radiator with water and replaced the antifreeze. I've checked the antifreeze and the car has enough. Any ideas?
Should have I done something before replacing the antifreeze? Is the car not heating up because of the bad oil pressure switch. Please help me here.

I do not recall the tool that I used but I've always replaced it when I did an oil change for more room. Also your car not running upto operating temps as fast as it should could be due to an air pocket in the system or your t-stat is stuck open.

Thanks for your response. Would you please say how I could go about locating the air pocket in the system, and or, the t-stat. What is t-stat? Thanks so much. I really appreciate your assistance.
I think I'd have to take the oil filter out. How much of a waste can I expect. Any tricks to this?
Thanks a lot!

The air pocket will just have to be worked out for the most part. I'm not aware of any bleeder valve on this car for the coolant system. The t-stat is short for o thermostat.
As far as taking the oil filter out... Have you seen how small our are? You wouldn't be wasting much I dont think. Hover I have never removed just the filter without draining the oil first.

Please let me know where I could find the t-start and how to check if for problems. Do you think draining the radiator this summer would have had caused any problem with the t-start? I'm really worried now, thinking I should not have done so. I simply opened the radiator's drainer and flushed it with water, and then refilled with anti freeze.
I will take the oil filter out and be prepared for some oil waste. Once done, I'd top the oil back up. Wish me luck in finding the right tool. This time round, I'm going to try a spanner.
