so funny story, me and by buddy were driving down a main street in buffalo. its a 3 lane street and we are in the far left, in the far right lane there is a riced to shit 91 integra. looked like a huge tool was driving it. so what me and my buddy do is try to get people to race us but we always acc. to teh speed limit and slow down. well this integra unknown to us was turboed with a gt40 and a k20 motor, needless to say i almost shit my pants when he took off and smoked through 3rd haha

ucMP3
10-02-2009, 09:30 AM
*sleeper* How did you find out it was a k20 with a gt40 strapped to it?

Dparks7
10-02-2009, 09:37 AM
even though he looked like a douche and we were messing with him, he put his hazards on and pulled into a parking lot so i followed. most actual tuners in buffalo are pretty chill and said he had never seen a protege that looked like mine with the charcole rims. he was running 9.5:1 compression and 23 psi of boost pushing like 430 to the wheels, but he was moddest in all of his "bragging"

ucMP3
10-02-2009, 10:04 AM
K20 swap by itself would not be cheap. Add that gt40 and everything and he has put a pretty penny into that teggy.

Thats why its usually a quick tip-off that they don't really know much about cars.

I have had cops actually argue with me that my car is not a Mazda, but is actually a Civic. Spent 45 min blocked in a parking lot because Cincinnati Police wanted to be assholes. "Will you just run the VIN already, please???"

Just don't spray water right on any electrical plugs, plug wires, or alternator for an extended period of time. Stick a rag in your intake as well if you have stock intake. Put a bag over your filter if you have an exposed filter. You only have to be alot more careful with distributors.

prof15

Well started cleaning it with degreaser and a rag.. and later I sprayed water to remove the remaining dirt. Well I first though it was the starter...but after a few intents the car starts and the engine runs for a little and then it dies.. so it mean that the starter and ignition system are working. So I need to find out what else could have been affected..

Probably I do have water somewhere in there..but I checked the spark plugs boots for water and there is none..

water would be on the pistons if it got in the engine not on the boots, take the coils and plugs out and look in to see if there is water

Falango
10-23-2009, 02:00 AM
That sounds terrible. Quality is kinda crappy, but I'm wondering if the water has already done the damage and passed through somehow. My first assumption would have been water soaked plug wires. That would have been the first thing I would have changed.

I know you said you checked your intake, but pull the filter and look closely to see if there's water stains on it. You'd probably have some if water went through there. It would mud up a bit with the dust and dirt that's already collected on the filter.

It's hard to tell from the video if it's firing on all cylinders. Even if it's just firing on 3 cylinders, it shouldn't really have trouble starting. I'm afraid it may be much worse than that now. Though if you did some bottom end damage, I'd think there would still be atleast some water on the pistons.

prof15
10-23-2009, 12:51 PM
I just got of the phone with my mechanic and he told me the problem is the MAF sensor after he computer got a code saying there is no signal from that sensor. So I am going to have him replaced it with a used that a friend of his is selling for $150. I am relief it wasn't something worst but still...

I know water did not get through filter since I removed the filter and it was dry and the filter box didn't have signs of water..I guess water managed its way into the maf sensor circuit because I sprayed electronic cleaner on the sensor and its connectors but not on the internals of the sensor.

Electronic cleaner, you mean a can of compressed air? I don't see how using that would have changed the fact, either before or after water got into the MAF.

No Electronic cleaner, its the spray they selll to clean circuit boards, cable and other components. The air can is different.

Here is a pic of the engine bay..the valve cover have some stains that I couldn't remove and heat shield have some rust so I am thinking on painting it but don't know what color.

Why did you think it wouldn't? Any/all aftermarket exhaust manifolds/headers that change emmisions systems (removing primary cat) will throw a CEL. You have to fix the CEL by tricking the ECU.

No, i mean the header was a lemon, it shoved the 02 sensor right into the slave cylinder, and melted my o2 sensor. I know that by removing a cat, that the o2 sensor will freak out... but now i dont have a functioning top o2 sensor at all!

why would you use anything else from the mx6 or 626
you just need the block, everything else from the protege bolts up to that block

and there isnt any work needed to get the motors to fit so im not sure what your talking about

cam hole sensor is in the head (valve cover) , which you will be reusing from your protege

wiring is going to be from your protege

but there is ONE thing that i heard wont work and its that there isnt a hole for the knock sensor in the other blocks
but you can always find another place to put it in the block

everything else is the same since your just using the block, and NOT the head, wiring, valve cover, trans, etc.

I got some headlight and taillight overlays from BlueBatmobile. Taillight ones were absolutely perfect. Perfect size (no trimming needed) and perfect color match. You can't even tell that the overlay only covers the clear part of the lens!! The headlight ones were very tough becaues of the curvature of the headlight. The matieral is easy to work with, but I didn't have any experience with it, so the headlights didn't get the film.

Protege03ak46

xDJ DUBx

I don't think your problem would be the rotors, it would be the caliper and how it bolts up. I mean, you could try it if you felt like gambling the money, but I've never heard of cheap big brake kit setups for 4lugs that are direct swap.

Protege03ak46

Hawk HPS pads FTW. What year is your car i thought u had a 03? did they still have the 4-lug then? I know for the 99-00 1.6(DX/LX) you can upgrade to the 99-00 ES brakes. This gives you a 10.1" rotor from the stock 9.2" rotor, and then the calipers change to the same one as the 01-03 2.0 5-lug cars.

IukekiniProtege
01-10-2010, 03:15 PM
got ya, just something I never really paid attention to being stuck in 99-00 land. Did your calipers look like the 5-lug calipers? or were they smaller? If they were smaller they would be the same as the 1.6l 99-00 and means the 01-03 4-lug guys should be able to swap to the the 99-00 ES 1.8l front brakes.

Falango & IUK,
per brake pad comments-
Hawk HPS semi met or Ceramic?
If HPS, would you go to Cer next time?
Is the dust worth the increased stopping power?
Thanks.

Thats what I thought u were talking about, but the wheels don't even show in the pic. haha

I also lowered the front like a half inch too so the wheels didn't magically make it look lower lol

Random Protege talk?? Sure I will jump aboard.

So I bought my side skirts and rear lip yesterday. All the parts for my MP3 are here. Just need to pic a color. I like the black mica, but its so hard to keep clean and in good condition... What color would look good on an MP3? Doesn't have to be a Mazda color.. I am kinda thinking dark purple??

i have a question for you protege guys. im building my probe (fsde) and i was planning on using the 1.8 block and bore it and destroke it to use all forged 2.0 internals with a 2.0 head. it will be aided with megasquirt, colt cams, headwork and im shooting for 14 psi of boost tops. now will this head and block bolt together? what headgasket do I then use? any cosmetic gaskets? also any comments on this build?
thanks ahead of time

if it is still the fs de and the only difference between the 1.8 and 2.0 is the chamber size then yes it should fit.

the actual sound deadener is expensive. ive heard of a friend doing it to just his trunk, and it cost like 80$. i would go home depot

I bought 100sq ft of Fat Mat from a dealer in Canada. Did all 4 doors outside skin, and inside. floor, roof, pillars, and rear hatch of my Protege5. depending how many layers you do, or if you add anything else you might need a bit more. As i already had some in car from a previous stereo install.

im so sick of people calling me rice.the only rice thing about my car is the interior leds and my body kit. just because i have a few rice pieces doesnt make me a ricer. every other part i have is legitimate or due to my cash situation. i do a lot of do it yourself things because i dont have cash to spend like everybody else. just because my body kit does not roll with the body lines perfectly does not make it rice. in fact, the MOTM winner from a couple months ago had the same side skirts as me. i actually kind of like my rear lip, but yes i am modifying it. why does everyone consider my kit rice with all of the other rice kits out there that others on this forum use? boostedprotege, i love your car and you get no shit for your kit. theres nothing wrong with it. but if i go through a checklist it matches everything that should make it rice, yet for some reason it is not? justanothermp5s headliner and shift boot are retarded but he gets no shit for that. i understand he is respected for what he has done under the hood, but still. just because i dont have msp sides, an msp front or sedan front lip, and a msp rear lip does not mean i should be considered a ricer whose car is made fun of all the time. just because i dont do what you all want me to do does not make it right to make fun of me. just because i dont have the same exact taste as the rest of you, that doesnt make me deserve to get discriminated against. im just asking for some respect as a fellow protege driver and proud mazda owner who is dipping his toe into some different water. i would appreciate if you would all lay off of making fun of me because it doesnt affect my decisions with what i do to my car. it just annoys me. so please just show me some respect.

i just needed to say it somewhere because it has been bugging me for a while.

anyway, what thread do i need for my oil pressure and oil temperature gauges? come on some one must have installed gauges on here!
