View Full Version : weird, brief rumbling from front of car.

Hi - In my early '07 UK RHD 5, every morning when I drive out to work, as I steer left out my driveway my 5 makes a brief rumbling sound as I'm turning, I can feel the rumble through the accelerator pedal - it happens every day at the same point, but I cannot seem to recreate it later... odd? any ideas what it could be?

Also - second question - I've had both rear suspension replaced within 6 months of me buying the car - both blew within a month or so of each other - I've seen a few posts here on suspension replacing etc - is this a common 5 problem? am I likely to see a short lifespan of the replacement suspension?

I wish!! nope, I've just got the petrol 2.0 sport version.

I saw a post on a different forum, the guy described exactly the same thing, the theory there was it is the ABS self checking - hence it happening at the same time after I start it in the morning.

Just a thought - try letting the car warm up an addl 30 sec or so, to see if it makes the sound at a different point (before leaving the driveway, or when braking before turning left, etc. Than you can rule out suspension/bearings.

Whoa, 'self checking' ? I've never heard of that ... sure it's not rust on the rotors that gets 'scraped off' each day? Or maybe it's a joint or boot that is 'cold' and rumbles a bit?

Good luck, I'd take it into the dealer and see if it's covered.

Many ABS systems will turn the pump shaft for a few revs at some point soon after the vehicle starts to move for the first time, post engine start-up. This more or less keeps the motor from getting stuck in position due to lack of use. Former owners of early GM ABS systems will more fully appreciate the value of doing this than others...
