i bought a brand new 05 sti in 06, got a reckless driving ticket and ins went out of the roof!!, sold it and bought my 02 protege 5, quite the down grade i must say, sorry lol. but after a fully built motor and a nice boost kit, im quite happy... about 2 years ago i met my beautiful girlfriend lol.... bla bla bla.. long story short she didnt like her car and so we decided to go to mazda and just "look" at some mazda wagons, her not knowing much about cars i said lets go look at the ms3 hahhahaha.. so 5 hours later we had a brand new ms3 in our garage, i think 23 miles on the odo... next morning shes driving to work and hits a cow... poor car was only alive 39 miles... sorry for the retarded story just thought id share..

lol, how the hell did she hit a cow. is it totalled? pics? I mean, can you really just happen to miss a cow in the road.
i know hitting a deer is considered a not at fault accident, so i can imagine a cow to be much different. does the MS3 have some kind of replacement plan for just that instance?
Oh, and hows the girl?

the road she was on is really hilly up and down for about 3 miles....and weve had some really weird rainy weather out here in sacramento, ive always tought her to just hit whatever is in front of her instead of swerving, unless of course its a person.. she was ok broken nose from air bag but no magor injuries, and yes the car is totaled out but our insurance is covering it... its not at fault though so thats good. shes a chp officer so i know she can drive! haha :P

One of my old friends got clipped in his brand new MS3 on the freeway about a week after he got it. The car was totaled but the insurance had another one in his garage within no time. Sad story indeed.

Probably, unless you have a vet out there to euthanize through the vein.

I know out here in NC we have bears and deer that regularly run out into the roads, if you swerve to miss them and wreck in a ditch or something the State Troopers will say you are 100% at fault if there is no evidence of a deer or whatnot.
So they always say to hit what's in the road, don't swerve.

Bingo. You're better off going straight, hitting the brakes and hitting the object in front of you. You swerve, you run the risk of running into someone coming the other way, which would be a lot worse.

im all for running shit over... well kinda... its that way in cali and kansas... being that im from the sacramento area... where was she like in galt or something? or BFE? lol... I hit a rabbit at about a hundred and it demolished my frount mount and a portion of my a/c condensor adn radiator... insurance ended up getting me a new bumper adn replacing all that good stuff... i dont feel bad for the cow anyways... stupid thing shouldnt have been there... sorry to hear bout the car tho...

I've seen the consequences of swerving to miss an animal in the road, and it ain't pretty. Hit the brakes and keep the car going straight and hope for the best. If you're lucky, the dumb animal gets out of the way before you hit it. And honestly, having to deal with the insurance company on a comprehensive clame rather than a collision claim is much easier.

ya she feels pretty bad for the cow but what can you do... if she were to swerve it would have been oak trees or cliffs so she had no other choice..

You obviously don't live in an area with deer. 9 times out of 10, if a deer crosses your car's path, you're more likely to hit the deer if you swerve than if you just go straight (because the deer will move too). Yes, if she had time to properly identify the animal as a cow, then she should've swerved, but I doubt this was the case.

"Don't veer for deer" is the official position of the Iowa DOT and the Iowa State Patrol.

(headshake chill dude... ya, swerving is often bad news especially at higher speeds...i know first hand...swerved to avoid a table in the middle of the highway (must have fallen off some guys truck who was moving?) and almost tipped the suv over and killed me and the wife...it was VERY close...i'd hit the table next time!

Imo, you're more likely to get killed falling into a ditch over hitting an animal.

Thank you captain obvious (uhm). I didn't mean that I thought she hit a deer - it's just an example that a lot more people are familiar with. You go out and tell someone not to swerve for a cow and they're gonna look at you like you're high. (nana)
