well my back drivers door window was smashed out and the mazda dealership is saying $197.51 to order a new one. the lady i was talking to was not very smart when it came to parts, and was giving me an attitude. i asked her if the regular protege's windows and the mazdaspeeds were the same, she said they were different....but she doesnt know how they're different. (im guessing the difference is the price)
so what im asking is if i were to find a protege, any trim besides the p5, would the windows be the same?
-or if you have an extra msp window for the back drivers door laying around, how much do you want for it??

the glass is a different color... its more green than brown
the glass is also thinner and lighter
regular front protege glass is german/french made but MSP glass is japanese made
they are all interchangeable of course, but it won't match/look right

yeah 95 bucks for aftermarket glass that don't have the same shade as the original one... works fine if you don't care and don't have money

maybe if ur ocd! who looks at the little window brand markings? i think it would be pure stupididy to spend twice as much on a window just because it an authentic mazda window! THEY ARE BOTH WINDOWS! they both have the same strength and purpose

car judges do... the ones who look to see how original the car is
yup..... there are collector cars out there that are 100% stock and judges check everything down to the last screw and bolt
but hey, even sam swapped the window out on his orange car so that they are all matching original glass... what else can I say

i work for a restoration shop and we use aftermarket windows all the time! win shows and are in numberous magizines including hot rod magazine in wich we have one hot rod of the year! as a matter of fact we just redid a whole chevelle in almost all aftermarket parts, it is prolly 80 percent made in tiawon, most everything fit like shit, but with some welding and fab work it looks like pure sex now(beautiful candy paintjob)! i think its more owners preference more than anything! ive yet to notice a car show judge look at the windows of a car, the seem to look more towards paint, body, audio and electronics, and motor more than anything!

yeah they will def use an aftermarket glass. the brand will probably be armorplate which is also known as atp.
what many of you dont know is that these aftermarket companies arent really aftermarket, they are oem, just mixed up.
for instance.....ppg makes glass for bmw, chevy....but you can get a ppg glass for a nissan.
our glass is actually make by LOF. so unless you get an ATI or SGC....your getting the same quality as dealer glass.
BTW if anyone wants a write up on how to do your own glass, let me know. ill teach you to replace your windshield in under an hour without scratching anything (even the pinchweld) which i can guarantee you an installer will do...then you get to worry about rust
but it is true you will have judges looking at that.
one more thing....DONT LOOK AT THE BRAND NAME, it doesnt matter....what matters is the DOT number
65 - SGC (safelite)
563 - xyg
904 - pgw (formerly ppg)
18 - ppg
and more
some glass will say SGC but actually have a dot 563 stamp which means its actually XYG
