i have done some searching on the subject but most peoples idle problems fluctuate from low to high. In my car on start up the engine revs to 2000 then drops relatively quickly as the car warms up. No more than a minute or two later will it drop to about 800 rpm and stay there. Is my egr valve dirty or starting to become dirty? This is for a 03 manual p5

This is completely normal. I'd be more concerned if it didn't do this - it's so the engine can warm up faster and get lubrication to the necessary places.

That's weird - every car I've ever driven has done this :)
