Hey Guys this is gonna be my fist posting on mazdas247.com so I hope someone can help me. I have a 4 door 99 protege 1.6 and the rear struts have finally kicked the bucket. Any one with advice on how to remove and install those puppies.

This should have everything you need, only difference is instead of putting new springs on your old struts you'l be putting your old springs on your new struts.

jeg's write up was right on the money...i referenced it when I did the struts on my 99 1.6 this winter....you definetly need that spring compressor, and an impact helps when tightening down the strut nut...if you dont have that stuff, you might want to just take the struts to a shop and have them swap your old springs onto your new struts...i put the hella cheap ag kit springs on my car...they are german tuv approved, and after 7 mos, they still fell great...Im gonna urge you to install new rubber spring isolators and strut boots....i reused my old spring isolators, and they wore away almost immediately, that caused a terrible squeak...it was so bad i had to take the springs out, and put new rubber isolators in
