port and polish question?

sorry if this may sound dumb but i have a spare head from a 626 and my buddy told me i should get it ported and polished.what are the benefits from this if any?

Reduces air flow restriction and therefore allows the engine to breathe a bit better. This usually creates an increase in horsepower. (thumb)
