Enkei RPF1 Wheel Features:
MAT PROCESS: Shaping by the MAT process reduces wheel weight by 10%-15%. Every pound of unsprung weight savings has the effect of reducing overall vehicle weight by 20lbs.
F1 REPLICA: Enkei is an official supplier of the McLaren Mercedes Formula One Team. The RPF1 was developed using the same technology as the Formula One race wheel.
TWIN SPOKES: Enkei's dual open stance spoke design is used on the McLaren Mercedes Formula One race wheel. The twin spokes achieve better stress dispersion on curves, hard braking, and extreme race driving.
CENTER DESIGN: Enkei's pocket design around the bolt circles increases rigidity and keeps the wheel cooler during aggressive race driving.

haha are u serious? almost 2k for some wheels that are just as light as my torques? and no. importing wont be much more than it would be with shipping on just a standard wheel set. maybe an extra $100 or so. only time importing will fuck you is importing cars and stuff like that, other wise, no it wont be much more. why would i want to spend an extra $700+ on a wheel set JUST because i don't wanna go through the hassle of having them imported? thats just stupid. so ill call it a day and stay with the torques. WAY cheaper. lighter. and if they get fucked... i wont want to shoot myself in the foot cause of it. ill spend the $150 and just, BUY a new rota.

people can talk ish about rota's all they want, but I love my rota's. I have the svn's in hyperblack and they are beautiful with the neo-chrome muteki lugs. They weigh 20 lbs at 18x8.5" and the finish is flawless. I've hit some massive pot holes that could have destroyed them, but not a single bend, dent, rash, or scratch on them. I love works, volks and all the other wheels that rota knocks off, but I am very pleased with my rotas.
Those kai's look gorgeous jeff, post pics asap bro!

cr-kai's 18x7.5 wrapped in 225/45/18's...stock ride height. sorry the pics are kind of crappy...just took them with my cell phone awhile back when I first got the wheels. I ended up painting the wheel hubs black since I was never able to find center caps for the wheels..it really improved the look but a bit of rust is starting to show through now so I'm going to have to redo it.

this a horrible example. since the RPF1 is a replica of a centerlock F1 wheel thet Enkei designed. its kinda hard for the original company to make a knock off.

honest question.. y do people think works and volks are soo sick? i dont get it, yea their nice wheels. But they cost like $700 a wheel. When u can get somthing that looks exactly the same for $700 for all for wheels. Yea their stronger, but if u drive a car, especially lowerd u prob shouldnt be driving over holes and shit. i know kids with rotas that have 40,000 miles on em and havet had one problem yet. What is it just so u can say u spent 3g's on rims?
Nismothecat

i dont mind spending the extra cash and buying a quality product. here is what pisses me off the most. a company like Volk spends alot of money to R&D a quality wheel, which is one reason they cost more. then a company like Rota comes along does not help to pay for R&D costs and just baltantly copies the wheel, sell it for much cheaper and everyone buys them. so the "real" company basically payed for Rota's R&D. what would happen to Rota if Volk and Work went out of business. could Rota design thier own wheel??? they sure havent done so yet. would they go out of business becasue they have no one to copy off of?? they very well could.
could be that ive been in the import scene long enough to remember when there were no knockoffs. when to make money in this industry you had to have a quality product, not just make a product that looks exactly like a quality product.
thaikim
09-01-2009, 05:22 PM
That's business my friend, with any growing industry there are bound to be copycats... Take a look at nearly any product for sale and there is almost always a generic version of it floating around... Everyone wants a piece of the pie and there is a niche market for people who want certain things but can't justify or afford spending the dough to possess it...
Nismothecat
09-01-2009, 05:32 PM
yes it is business. but thats also the reason i wont support Rota or any other knockoff.

The argument goes both ways.
You are paying for a name yes, but you are also paying for the years of R&D and quality manufacturing and knowing that if you have a problem with the product there is a highly visible company there to stand behind that product.
BBS and RAYS Engineering have been producing wheels since the 70's and both have been heavily involved in motor sports throughout their existence.
They have also been contracted to produce wheels for just about every auto manufacturer on the planet, including our Mazdas.
I have had Rotas, RAYS and BBS wheels and I can tell you for a fact that the quality of my Rotas was not anywhere close to being in the same league as my RAYS or BBS wheels. A simple look at the finish compared to my RAYS told me all I needed to know.
In conclusion, is it necessary to spend 3k on wheels? Absolutely not. Is it worth it? Depends on who you ask but I say absolutely.

We have this same debate in every single wheel thread.
It's definitely a case of "to each their own", but I always find it funny when the high-end wheel haters are the ones with a permanent list of "future mods" in their signature. This gives me the impression that a lack of cash flow is the source of their hate. If I couldn't afford high-end wheels, I'd get what I could afford and accept that without putting down the expensive stuff. That was exactly where I was ten years ago when I built my Miata. Now I can afford what I want and I get it. No hate towards Rota, but I wanted the real deal this time around.
Are True Religion or Rock & Republic jeans really worth the $300 price tag when you can get similar jeans at Old Navy for $30? If you like the way they fit and the way you feel wearing them and having a certain stitching on your pockets does it for you, then hell yes it's worth it.

rotas DEF aren't close to RAYS or advan. or anything like that. no way in hell. but as much as i drive my car, there isnt a way in hell im gonna pay for rays or anything like that to DD on. as far as WORKS go. they have their cheap line that AREN'T forged like the cr-kai and such where as you ARE paying that much for no more than JUST the name. im sorry but, any rotas ive owned or seen compared to just youre average work wheel like the the KAI's quality is almost identical. and HEAVYYY!! im not gonna pay over 1200 bucks for works an be heavy, i'd rock some OZ's at 18lbs... nice looking wheel. but, like any forged wheel. they just really aren't THAT strong. i've seen FAR more cracked dented forged wheels than i have just rotas. ( not saying rotas are indestructable) but fuck, i'd punch myself in the dick if i fucked up a $700 wheel. but if i AM going to spend that much on soem wheels might as well go all out an pick up some advans or something. 16-17 lbs for 18x8-8.5's wheels is nuts, and i dunno if any of you have driven an felt the difference in wheel weights but it feels great. but for now. ill rock my $500 torques (thanks wheeldude) hah (ricer) (lol2)

Are True Religion or Rock & Republic jeans really worth the $300 price tag when you can get similar jeans at Old Navy for $30? If you like the way they fit and the way you feel wearing them and having a certain stitching on your pockets does it for you, then hell yes it's worth it.
Make sense?
Good point.
I still think many owners don't have an absolute need to buy into forged wheels unless they track A LOT. They'd never realize the full benefit out of a daily driver. Aluminum casting may not be as light or durable, but for a DD it's not a dealbreaker. Most people would never drive their car in a manner that would suffer from the limitations of casting. And most wheel damage on a DD occurs from curbing, scraping, or other forms of negligence. Sure people say they'd never do something like that to a set of 2.5K wheels, but that's why they're called "accidents."
There are plenty of cast sluminum manufacturers that make quality wheels at 50-60% the cost of forged (Enkie being one of them). I would never hate on someone who chose one over the other; but people just need to realize that there's more to a wheel than just a name.

I disagree, I think mesh wheels look great on our car. However, some look better than others. (ex. BBS LM sexiest rim ever, although that rim could be put on a minivan and still look good )

Go ahead and put 3 times that amount in another envelope marked "my car blew up so now I have to pay an exorbitant amount of money to fix it".
it wont blow cause the pistons and rods are getting put in b4 hand. =]
