Hello everyone im new here and im very excited to be here. To start things off ive got a Silver 99 Mazda Protegé ES. And everything about it is stock. Im actually wanting to put some money into some upgrades. Heres where im a little lost and confused. Im not sure whether to invest in a stereo system or a body kit and rims. I have around $500 to spend and I was wondering what you guys thought might be the best investment. The stock stereo is beginning to die out and im having some problems with it. And my rims are a bit scratched and my bumpers as well. So if you guys could give me any advice at all it would be much appreciated. Thanks.

$500 will buy you a fairly decent stereo system. Certainly enough for a good head unit and 2 sets of excellent speakers. You'll be amazed at how much better they'll sound over your stock ones and how much more enjoyable your ride is going to get. Unfortunately, you may have to save up a bit more, as your budget might not be enough to cover the amps and sub that you'll also probably want.
A body kit and rims will set you back WAY over $500, I'm afraid...

yeah a new radio and speakers are the best you are going to get for a $500 budget
because you can probably get rims for 500 with out tires and tires are probably 400-600 more depending. A body kit will run close to or more than 1000+since the most expensive part is the paint and labor to get them install.

Criuse the FS section - good deals on wheels.
Describe the damage tot he bumpers - we may be able to talk you through some fixes.
Spend the $$ on the stereo. Amps fit under the front seats.
Me? No stereo? No go. You say 'going bad' - that would make it Priority ONE for me...
