Does anybody here runs header on Mazda 5?
I'd like to know:

1. which one did you go with (Vibrant, Draxas, OBX, etc.) and why?
2. did you notice any gains low and high end? (Dyno would be perfect)
3. are you using OEM or aftermarket exhaust system?
4. how easy/difficult was the installation
5. where did you buy it

Thanks in advance
Dima

Wow, if someone does, or you do Dima, I'd love to see those pictures myself, BTW - great question Dima.

I'm doing it. Just like pretty much everything that's on my car, I had to try it first :)

eh, skip the header.... go downpipe n turbo :) To see full gains I would expect a full exhaust upgrade and strongly suggesta CAI..... maybe some ECU tweaking if available

I already have CAI and by putting header in i will eliminate the first cat, which should give me about 10whp. It would be a good idea to get CBE, but I'm not quite sure if I want to do that.

BTW, the header goes in this Friday

It would be nice (if possible) to have a dyno to see if all those modifications give some good HP/WHP !!!

I'll have the pictures posted once the header is in. As for dyno, I'll try my best to get it done. I'm kinda interested myself what kind of gain is there (if any :) )

ok, the Vibrant header is in and I can tell you right now there is noticeable gain there. Low end is a bit better, high end is a lot better and pulls all the way to the red line.

Pics still to be posted.

Any codes or drivability issues? Thanks for taking one for the team like you do and posting your thoughts.

no codes or drivability issues at all. As long as everything is done right you shouldn't have any issues

dima_rus

pretty much the same, slightly raspier. And sometimes after revving high it might backfire a bit

Dima, sweet ass stuff man! Very nice, did you buy them or make them?

How much total costs, and where to buy them at? ... how are the changes and performance up or same?

You said more raspy, ... sweet, I love that sound... (naughty)

Hey I want to get a straight pipe from the catalitic converter on back... any suggestions?

Also, what exhaust are you running> I got a medallion --(Pic example only!)

I used a thunder header in my 5, worked great very close to the vibrant setup I sell on my site. Best mod I ever made to that van.

Thanks man. I don't have an exhaust and I ended up keeping the resonator. The header/CAI combo made it sound perfect in my opinion. Everybody still thinks I run an exhaust there :) . Having said that, I would not recommend you run a straight pipe there, first of it would be way too loud, and not only it will be loud but you will lose all the back pressure and you will lose the low end. By installing the header with flex pipe you are removing the first cat, which met all my needs.

No, not yet. I'm just a bit too busy working and going to car shows, trying to attend as many as possible before the season ends. But I will try my best to take a video for you guys.

he's talking about a catback... he didn't know how to call it!

and you don't need back pressure for any good exhaust
back pressure is pure nonsense from people who don't know shit about exhaust tuning!

Sweet Dima, I likes much! Ball for going there where others fear to tread.

On the stright pipe, really? Sweeet, LOUD is what I want, I've got this $400 muffler and it sounds like I got a paper cup over the end of it... :( I WANT LOUDER, !! Muahahaha! (flame2)

So MAYBE one day I'll have a custom pipe made (stright from the cat to the muffler) ... so as to up it a little more. :)

he's talking about a catback... he didn't know how to call it!

really on a M5? Or wait what? I thought that is a short name for a catalitic converter? No?

Hey, don't say the word "shit" j/k :)
But in some cases, you DO need SOME back pressure, my TURBO's
Skyline you do at lest, I F'ed up the blow off valve and whooosh there
went all my bost pressure, he he. Plus I'd want some even flow to
spin down correct, or you wear out a turbo in a few years, TheMAN,
what boost level ya runing?
I got my Skyline up to 1.8 for normal and 2.2 over ride, wheeeeee,
waaaaaa! then, Spppppsssssss comes that blow off, Gosh I miss
them old days!

http://img33.imageshack.us/img33/6739/mvc023f.jpg

but in this case, I agree, no need the back flow, let that in TheMAN's words "shit" flow baby!! (drive2)

cat = catalytic converter

and yes, according to the shop that is always tuning and dynoing cars suggested I keep the resonator, otherwise there won't be any back pressure and I will lose my low end completely. As much as I do respect your opinions and inputs, I trust that shop a lot more.

I thought so, but then again I've been out of the 'tuneing' buisness for a while. Good to know, thanks for share! :)

u dont need back pressure in a turbo car so 3 in or bigger is awesome,
in NA if u have a 2.5in" u already lose low end torque, the 5 isnt turbo so...
yes i would say if u want torque and hp then u need a certain amount of backpressure

So has it been a week yet?:D

I'm noticing a recurring theme in these forums of people never getting back with pertinent info.

Dima spends alot of time on the Toronto Mazda5 site. Haven't seen (heard) him around here for a while, alas.
