im doing my best to write this in english, as its not my primary language!! sorry

im gonna start by the beginning
i have a mazda protege 2002 ESGT AUTOMATIC
yesterday morning i had a milkshake on my cup holder...everything falls on the central console (place where we have the speed changer, and hand brake)

after cleaning the stufff, i could drive all day long with no problem, when i got home after work i decided to clean all that mess...so i removed the central console, the millkshake didnt get INSIDE the console...so no liquid damage nothing,

BUT while removing the shifter knob (AUTOMATIC REMEMBER, its different from manual)
i pulled a little bit to hard and a blue cable got cut...(actually they were 2 blue cable)(probably the cable for the OVERDRIVE)...i told to myself well bigdeal...i never use it anyways)

once the mess was cleaned up i put everything back together then i could not shift from R to N ...i could only shift from P to R ...by playing a little bit with the shifter knob i manage to ''fix that''...now i can shift normally...BUT without the need to press the SHIFT SELECTOR BUTTON(chrome button that you press when you go from R to N)

i told to myself, im gonna make it check on friday just to make sure this is not gonna mess my car...
i get to the point of leaving my car but the key is stuck in the ignition, on ACCESSORIES position

what can i do?! somebody has something to suggest

RESUME::::
problem 1: key is stock in ACCESSORIES mode...can take it out
problem 2: how come i dont need to use the speed selector anymore to change my speed(thats the chrome button that you press to switch ur speeds)
still can drive my car, change the speeds, no problem on that side...
i didnt take it out today just in case something could go wrong,

help would be greatly appreciated,

manu

I don't know what those cables do. But they probably are used to determine if the car is in park. If the car is not in park, the key cannot be removed from the ignition. The part diagram might be able to help you figure out what you broke and how to replace it.

Send me a private message with your e-mail address and I will send you the correct part of the factory shop manual. I think you broke a connector.
