ok so here is the deal i am 300 mi from home, on a conference for my job. I just put a shit ton of money into my car in repairs luckily i do all the labor myself. New exhaust man/ gasket, new radiator, and some other mis bullshit. So a 1000 dollars later i think that i am done with repairs for a while. Well Today me and 3 of my friends decide that we are going to go out to the Bar after a long day of work. Low and behold on my way we all end up pushing may car back to the motel. It started making a weird grinding noise as soon as i left. Like pressure plate was not grabbing and the fingers were rubbing something. So a 1/2 mile later here we are pushing.
so i guess my questions is: Is there a way of know weather this is a LSD or a clutch (with out tearing into it), reason i would like to order the part now so that i can repair the car as soon as i get home, (it is nothing to take the trans out of this thing). i think that it is a clutch but i would like to have your guy's opinion. Thanks and if you need more info just ask.

Does it even want to move at all or all you hear is a grinding noise?

It would want to move at first but after a bit no more power at the wheels, and no noise to boot

If it went suddenly and left you with nothing but a grinding noise, I'd call LSD.

If you put another LSD in it, make sure to get it welded so it won't happen again.

Yep! A NEW welded LSD holds a hell of a lot better then a welded used lsd. Just food for thought.

if it is the LSD that is the rote that i will go, i hope it isnt thought but we will see. I guess there is no way of knowing 100% without diving in?

welded lsd is the only way to go

go with the upgraded lsd for 600.00 from Mfactory. Crossover auto sells them
anyways, if the car moves, it MAY not be the lsd.. it could be the clutch.

mine moved fine with the lsd snapped...it just didn't put power to the ground, it grinded like all hell, and it wouldn't go over 25mph lol...rpms would slip like a clutch too but it was quite obviously the lsd
clutches don't usualy just go out in a BAM like that without putting seriously higher than designed for power levels through them and without abusing them to do so...don't get me wrong, it does happen on occassion but usually due to a manufacturer defect...to just happen all of the sudden like that, especially if he wasn't abusing it (which I would assume he would have mentioned if trying to diagnose it here), is more than likely an lsd issue than a clutch issue
like I said though, I have seen some funky shit in my time lol...I've seen clutches blow like nothing, I've seen flywheel bolts back out and jam the clutch to engage at all times, I've seen pressure plates snap forks, etc...etc...(none of which to my car, but to car's that have come to me for repairs lol)...it could be the clutch, but it's MUCH more likely to be the lsd with the symptoms he has listed and with how abrupt it happened...plus he hasn't mentioned any issues of getting it in and out of gear, which would be a problem if the clutch weren't able to actuate right

I was only able to go about 10mph, I had my flashers on and tried to get it to my friends house and some stupid integra tried to race me. I told him that my clutch broke but I'd race him in a few days.(nuts) It was the LSD...

Well tonight i will have the car apart and we will see. I will take some pics and let you know. I think it is the clutch that is just me though (maybe a bit of optomisim)

Well was not the clutch (damn) I think that i am going to need a whole new trans. the LSD blew to a shit (lot of metal shavings in the trans) I will take some pics.

well i am going to do a total trans rebuild so i am going to need another to hold me over.
So my question is what transmission will fit in this car (MX6, 626, probe ect..) Right now i am riding my R6 to work and when it rains it is going to suck. I see a million of the cars listed above in the junk yards so will one of these fit? i know that i will lose the LSD, but i think that it will work, anyone tried this?
Thanks B

i dont think any of those transmissions would fit i went throgh the exact same thing when my diff broke u will either have to buy a welded lsd, a factory lsd or fine a used mazdaspeed protege transmisson and there not cheap

08-16-2009, 08:41 AM
shit, i thought that i read on here somewhere that they would work, i mean if you think about the only thing that could be diffrent are the mounting points, and some of the sensors. I will take some pics and go to the yard and see what i find. But if someone on here already know for sure please fill me in. Thanks -B-

They might mount together, but won't mount to the car right or even fit that area.

Might as well just rebuild the whole tranny. Tear it apart, clean it all out, and upgrade the gears and upgrade the LSD:)

they do work. i actually think i have a 626 trans in my car right now. the only thing that doesn't work is my reverse lights. so.. yeah. they mount up.

the fuck you guys on?
the trannys are almost entirely the same
I have a transmission in my car from a 1993 ford probe lol....the mounts mount to the same location and can be used, but just use your msp mounts as they are a million times better (especially the driver's side mount...it's way easier to get the engine in and out with the msp version)
I cannot name the exact years that use the g-series transmission, however if it has an fs-de in it and a 5-speed transmission, it will have a g-series transmission and it will bolt on and operate fine
