OK so i went on a trip to missouri from oklahoma car did awesome on the way there and for the most part on the way back. I was almost to wichita kansas and pulled over to get gas and smelt something that smelt like burnt gear oil so i popped the hood and the battery was smoking. pulled the terminals off and let it cool down put them back on and had to push start the car. Car started and I drove it about a mile where it died. Had it towed to blakwell oklahoma. Checked the battery and it had no acid in it. put some water in it and gave her a jump, but now no spark. What is the problem? I know that the battery light was on and I think it was overcharging the battery, could this have burnt up the ignition module or the coil?

Four days ago my 1996 Protege developed a problem with starting when the engine is hot. The engine starts fine when cold and runs with no problems. When I turn the key to restart when the engine is hot, there is no response at all. I took it to a Mazda dealer who ran diagnostics and changed the plugs and wire set and cleaned the intake and fuel injection system. I drove it home (20 minutes driving time) and tried to restart and had the same problem as before. Anyone have any ideas what the problem is?
