Hey -- I have read the 09 manual on Mp3 Cds (6 CD in dash changer), and I have burnt a couple of data CDs with perhaps 200 songs on them. The first had a shallow folder hierarchy with the name of the band for each child folder and then the songs in that folder, the second attempt had all the songs at the root. In both cases, the cd player would only play the first 13 songs on the CD and then move to the next disc in the changer.
I burnt them straight with vista and then with media player 11's dumbed down wizard.
I checked the discs after and they are definitely data CDs with hundreds of songs on them.
Can someone tell me what the hell I am missing?
The manual has the long text about how the player auto navigates the folder hierarchy based on certain rules ...etc... and explains how to change folders, but certainly does not work on mine.

Anything I am obviously doing wrong? If not, then what are you using to burn with that works.

Thanks
remi

remi,
I only tried two-level hierarchy of folders. I basically burnt two music CDs into one MP3 CD with two folders, one for each music CD. On the screen (2008), I can see two folders. After playing the 1st folder, the player goes to 2nd folder automatically (as expected).

Why don't you try my way (two levels) and see what will happen?
I have 2008 model, which may be different from your 2009 in GUI (graphic user interface).

I have 5 MP-3 CD-R disks in my changer. Each has about 170 songs on it. I did not use any folders--I placed all of the songs in the root folder. I did this so I can use the random function--if the songs are in folders, the random only works for songs within the folder. By placing evrything in 1 root folder I get all 170 songs to play at random.

Force-1 has a point on using the "Random" function. The same goes for REPEAT as well.
You can repeat a song or a folder, but not the entire MP3 disc if you created folders.

Thanks guys, I tried the 2 folder hierarchy and that worked fine. I also burnt it with a real MP3 management tool - MediaMonkey, rather than Vista. I think that the default Vista burn must have been using disk at once, multisession. Dunno. In any case, I appreciate the input and I am up and running. Very happy.

remi,
Glad to hear. 200 songs on 1 CD.
Why do you need a CD changer? (don't answer...)
Use higher bit rate (256bps) for encoding if you rip them from CDs.

If the CX-9 played WMA, one could get double the songs at the same MP3 sound quality.

Regis' Turd User - are you using a designated ipod module (either oem or after market) for your ipod? I assume that's the way to get decent audio from it... as opposed to the stereo mini plug/aux in?
If so, which one are you using and did you have to disconnect the Sirius module to do it?

How did you guys get a CD Changer? I have an 09 CX-9 and it only takes 1 CD. Is it because of the Nav?

Do you have the BOSE package? I think it's part of that.

If you don't have NAVI, your CD player probably can't play MP3 disc.
That was true with 07/08 models. Not sure about 09 ones.
(look for a Mp3 logo next to the player opening - if there is one, it works for Mp3.)

My 2009 GT (no NAV but with Bose/Moonroof) has an in-dash 6-disc CD/MP3 disc player. You need to have either the Moonroof/Bose or RSES package.

I just found out that if you have the nav system you do not get the changer. That is insane. What is more insane is the fact that this player does not accept DVD's with mp3 which a lot of cars do nowadays.

This is a post from edmunds.....

Just reviewed the CX-9 Sales brochure for the 09 CX-9 and the feature/functionality matrix clearly states 6CD is not available with Touring Assistance or Grand Touring assistance package. Not sure why they do this. No one has pointed this out before.

This is new for 2009. 2007/8 models have no such restriction.
The reason, my guess, is that the NAVI unit has been moved from the trunk to the center console.
There simply isn't enough space to accommodate the NAVI unit AND the 6-CD changer behind the MFD (multi-function display).

I went to the dealer just last week to find out this out. I was not happy with this and didn't realize this was the situation with the Navi and GT assistance package. Actually my salesman who is a friend of mine wasn't aware of this. Disappointed in Mazda with this deal after spending this much money.

Agree. Insufficient space for Navi disc and 6 disc changer in the same unit for 09 model. It does not bother me for playing mp3 music only.
