if it were a simple bolt on and ecu swap/tune
i would have kept my mazda5 lol

but we got a cx-7 in it's place

That sounds much more practical. There's a certain point where the effort, time, labor, and money spent are just not worth the return. I think C&D went way past that already, before even finishing that project.

I think after everything was said and done, they only achieved a 15.4 in the 1/4 mile, buuuuut I could be wrong.

sure its a lot of work, and not practical at all, but it's a pretty badass kid hauler.

I dunno I think the SRT8 Magnum qualifies more as "badass".

I think you're right. They had major tuning issues that they need to sort out. And why don't they just get all the bolt-ons if they are going for that outright speed.

nice shades... i also like the 'test drive' with parts dragging the ground and wheels rubbin on plastic fender liners... yeah, classy job, 'shades'.... and 'mousy' over on the passenger floor all anxious...

it's a good engine place in a too heavy platform. but interesting...

i would be more interested in swapping this engine into a RWD platform like the miata (or my sprite).... :)

they need to get the AP to sort out all there boost issues, after that I am sure they would be good to go!

Yes in the end the 1/4mi times were awful but it was still fun to read and follow. Kind of weird about having to put the MS3 cluster in the glove box of the 5 so everything wouldrun.

the cx7 is nice and all
but it in no way shape or form comes close to the
usefulness of the mazda5
we loved our 5, seats 6, sliding doors
it just had no zoom zoom and had problems going up hills
it should have come with a 6cyl like the mvp before it
and i would have kept it

It irks me that some people get paid to do this crap. And I'm not one of them.

so true. but, our 5 handled going up to lake tahoe a hell of a lot better than i thought it would.

weird,we went up to lake arrowhead/big bear
and it was challenging, always having to downshift, we could tell it was struggling. i was looking into getting an intake/header/exhaust
but decided to just get the cx-7 instead.

i do miss the 5 tho heh

Kind of an interesting video. Learned some stuff about our cars that I didn't know previously. Kinda weird that our car wouldn't even work if we took out our gauges. Probably would have been better off just spending time and money on putting a turbocharger on the M5 engine, because this "Speed5" is basically a mazdaspeed3 in a different body.

chrysler was turboing vans in the 80s and 90s long before many of us had learner's permits. had C&D just turboed the base 2.3 they'd have been far better off.

funny thing. we checked out a cx-7 the last time we were at the dealership. wife started to get in... and bumped her head. i got in the passenger side, and almost did the same. the cx-7 seems so much smaller. less room in the front and back... no 3rd row...

sure it has the disi... but when you have never been in a turbo'd car... like me... you dont know what you are missing.

i would love to turbo the 5 some day. i would just get the tripoint kit though. it could use more power... but where am i going to use it... to beat the civic out of the grocery store?

i was wondering what was going on with that project

and i agree with an attempt to drop the MZR in the miata. but with the way computers and electronics are (especially in this engine) i think the monster miata kit would end up being easier to do, and obviously more hp. ford 302 in a miata FTMFW

If they were to drop the DISI MZR into the Miata for a new Mazdaspeed MX-5 I would be tempted to throw all practicality out of the window...

the new miata has an MZR. all new mazda 4cylinders fall under the MZR family.
