Well i took off my throttle body yesterday, needed to clean the iac, couldn't get the damn screws off to get the iac off. So i had to go somewhere, put it all back together and started it up and it revved up to like 5000 rpms and stayed there makng a really loud whining noise. Then the rpm's started to drop down but were going up and down and up and down then died. Seemed like a really bad vac leak but everything is put back the same way. Also i had taken the throttle cable off which i had never done before, but i seemed to have gotten back on right. I got to run to work will check later on. Please help me out

your gasket was broken on the TB was it? How about the line going from the intake tube to the valve cover, did you remember to put that back on(if you even took it off). Brake booster line? Did you double check to make sure that the tb gasket was on the right way, I remember one time in a rush I put mine on in the reverse direction and i had a major idling issue and a loud whistling noise.

Usually the TB gasket does not survive any removal of the TB, they get very brittle with age. If this is the case, you can make a temporary gasket out of thin glossy printed cardstock (like what a 12-pack of beer comes in) by cutting to rough size, and holding it tight against the TB while tapping all around the edges with a ball peen hammer. Tap down into all the mounting holes too. Eventually it will become "die-cut" so to speak, pop out all the holes and it will get you by while you wait for a new one. They will most likely have to order the part at the dealer. I had to endure this when the red tube shot off the end of an aerosol can of TB cleaner down into the intake plenum. DOH! I had to remove the TB to fish the red tube out of there, and the TB gasket come off in tiny pieces. The cardboard gasket worked fine

i would run gasketless until a new gasket is secured

I didn't even notice the gasket. It must have stayed stuck to the back of tb. I'm going to take back apart and do it again, i could have missed something real simple

Yup! it was the gasket. Was doing all this at night and didn't realize the gasket was black. Pieces were hanging out the bottom.lol. So it's up and running just wanted to say thanks to you guys for your input.

the moral of the story:
-research THOROUGHLY on what you need to do and if any replacement parts are needed!
-buy replacement parts FIRST and all other necessary tools BEFORE starting work on the car
